I'm just wondering what I should do with my '93 Honda Civics beat up old stereo system. The speakers are all shot and since I dont own very many cassettes, the in dash reciever is gunna have to go. My brother has told me to go with a Crutchfield reciever, because they give you an entire kit to work with. They are also pretty expensive. Is crutchfield the way to go? I don't need top of the line stuff, but it should be pretty good quality. I'm also thinking of doing something slick, like an auxiliary-in for an iPod. Something unique...

Does that really matter? Cant I just find a reciever that fits? I'll take measurements or sumthing of the deck tomorrow...
Anyways I found a site that kind of helps.

well, i would think you'd want to put a new deck in to handle the new speakers and such, and if you have a universal sized one, its very easy to put an aftermarket one in, however its very difficult if you dont have a universal sized one, like when my mom wanted to upgrade the sound in her lexus,,,

Well I was just gunna replace the speakers. They're 5 1/2 inches or maybe 6 1/2 inches. I was thinking of doing something with pods for the front speakers. They are currently aimed at your feet/legs and I want to change that. The only speakers I might add would be small 1 inchers on the front doors. I'll take some digital pictures tommorrow and maybe that will help you to understand what my plans are...

I'll took digital pictures of me taking apart the stock radio and I'll have them up tonight.
I also found some pretty good sights with some sick ideas...There is a converter, called HON-AUX, that creates an Auxiliary port for you to hook up an iPod, minidisc, etc to your Honda. I'd been thinking about getting an iPod for Christmas and this would be awesome. Pretty original too. Now I'll have some place to put those 3000 MP3s of mine, as well as something to do...

BTW I measured the radio:
The faces is 7.5 inches wide and 2.5 inches tall.
The space where the radio slides in goes from 7.5 inches wide to about 7.25 inches wide after a few inches inwards.

If I end up putting an iPod in the Civic I think this is the way I'm gunna go.

Pretty cheap and easy. I'm still looking at other adaptors, but this was the best one I've found so far.[/url]
