Default 1966 Charger

To compete in the frenzy started by Pontiac's GTO, Dodge needed something even more aggressive and also more aerodynamic. The answer was to use the Coronet's 117 inch platform, give the car hidden headlamps, full-width taillights, and and a sleek fastback roofline. To top it off it could be ordered with the mighty hemi, now available with 490tq over the previous year's 480. Only 468 Chargers got the hemi which was good to run the quarter-mile in 13.8 seconds. The top-of-the-line GTO's fastest quarter-mile was 14.0 seconds. This is were the rivalry all started, soon You'll bigger and more powerful engines and lighter cars.

Didn't Australia get a different version to this? Anyway, it's a legendary car, and let's hope the nameplate comes back on full-bore muscle car! A mini-version of the Viper...it'll be all good.

OK, now this is home turff to me, what your thinking of is the valiant charger (valiant the australian offshoot of chrysler). This was a much smaller car comming with a 245 or 265 hemi slant 6 (the 265 having a 300hp R/T version) and a 318 fireball and 340 bent eight with a 360 comming in later. The R/T Charger is still the fastest australian production car to 60mph being much light than even todays hot holdens (it was much smaller than the dodge charger). The R/T charger is a pretty inexpensive classic with some getting down to 16 grand.

Thats the one I was thinking about..thanks for clearing that up. I always loved that Valiant Charger, it looks awesome, small but so potent and fast...I saw one the other day actually.

I love the body style of this car. It was pretty revolutionary in my opinion. the interior is one of my favorites on any car. My only real gripe is the skinny little tires it had. Made it look like the car was going collapse on itself.

Challengers had skinny tires too. What I liked about the interior is how the rear seats fold down to extend the cargo bed. I also like the center console that extends to the rear seats.

Hey guys

Whats up, i'm an australian guy and like most aussie guys i know heaps about the valiant charger, a mad ass car that is our answer to the american mustang. It held the fastest australian production car for over thirty years the six was infact a straight hemi six that could power the charger to a 14.4 1/4 mile. Hope that helps you guys out.

It's a cool car, but there's a lot of other cars from to US that I like more.

I've never heard of the Valiant Charger. How fast can it do 0 to 60?

Have you guys seen the previews for the new Charger in Road and Track? It's going to be a 4 door sedan from the looks of it. It looks like the new Magnum, but in a sedan form instead of wagon. What's the deal with all these american muscle cars? The same thing happened with the GTO! (at least that doesn't have 4 doors, it just looks like a Grand Prix) I don't like many american cars, but it's a shame to see these old fast cars turned girly.

You know, I'm from America and I have to agree with you. What is with us Americans and our cars?
