need some clarification on what is Le Mans. I know from research online, basically 24 heures du mans, takes place in france, roughly a 24 hour race, SINGLE race and no different classes. is that right?
what's petit le mans?
what about American Le Mans? are these 24 hours too?
which is the one with LMP class, GTS class, and GT class?

Yes, it is a single race.
There are 3 classes as far as I know:
1. GT
2. GTS
3. LMP or Prototype class
(from slower to faster)
They race together, and it is an awesome race. The LMP prototypes are the fastest things next to F1, I believe.

I think they are faster. Without the chicanes they would go on the long straight over 400Kp/h

Probably. But I meant overall performance, i.e. around a track.

Yes, the F1 cars would be faster around a track, but the LMPs have higher top speeds. Also, there are two LMP classes in Le Mans. Something like 675 and 900. The 900s are more powerful, but heavier and usually win the races. American Le Mans is a series that has several long road course races. Petit Le mans is the championship race for American Le Mans, and is longer than the other ALMS races. Not sure how long it is, though.

I have a very nice game (for pc) with Le Mans racing. It's called Total Immersion Racing and it's really good.

hmm.. i should try to get that, are the graphics good? :)
anyway, i originally thought le mans was like complete stock car racing, and no class separation...

But whatever you do don't get Le Mans 24 Hour. It's really bad.

Yeah very good graphics and gameplay, nice engine sounds too, you should give it a try IMO.

why do they never allow ABS in racing...

Cost, but mainly that it would "equalize" the field to much.

But do you what it means 675 and 900?
It means prototips weight.
There are mainly 2 categories: prototypes and GT, the prototipes containe two kinds of cars, 675 and the 900, the 900 one got two types of cars the LMP one end The LM GTP which choosen the bentley team in tthe 2003 edition, it's cocpit is covered, that is the only defrence.

Yes, because the LMP prototypes have fenders, open-wheel cars have more drag. So a LMP prototype can do about 230 mph-240 mph depending on what tracks gearing is being used. While a Formula 1 car with the right gearing can do about 215-220 mph. But as awesome as a LMP prototype is around a track a Formula 1 car can easily beat it. But remember a LMP prototype can do it for 24 hours straight.

Well A F1 cars biggest advantage is its brakes.

We have to take in consideration the engines and tranmition technologies, there's great difference between The F1 cars and The LM Prototyps, it's figures easily on the homologation form.

you also have to consider RPMs...because F1 cars have insanely high RPMs, average about 13,000, while the LMPs only have about 9,000, yes HP and top speeds are important, but high RPMs put F1 cars over the top.

any sites out there that have the stats on which cars won every year?

You could never find detailed specs, like with F1. It seems they are kept semi-secret or sth. :?

all i know is that when i saw Le Mans, for the first time it absolutely amazed me. There's something more to it than F1 and Rallying. Watching it at night-time is great. Especially from the ACO stand. My Dad drives down every year in his Porsh 944 and throughly enjoys it. I can't wait to go again. The rush of adrenaline from the side-by-side racing is quite bewitching. It is amzing just to watch the talents of the drivers.

LMPs are faster than F1s, better aerodynamics and less engine restrictions out wiegh all the technology the F1s have. Plus LMPs have to last for 24 hours

However, they are less powerful, weight more, and do not have as much grip as F1 cars, so they're actually slower on a track. Greater top speed though.

Around ANY track a LMP car is NOT EVEN CLOSE to a F1 car.

Dude do you do ANY research before you post? First off ALL LMP cars have rules and restrictions as well. The ONLY advantage a LMP car has over a F1 car is top speed. A F1 cars brakes ALONE give it a near unbeatable advantage around a track. You need to do some research.

Jsut let me tell you this, if you think a LMP car has even the slightest chance of beating a F1 car around a track, do some real research.

depends on the track as well, and the driver. Because most of the good drivers get sucked up pretty quickly into f1 (even schumacher had a drive at le mans) you won't be able to compare lap times
