Acura has announced that it will compete in the LMP2 class in 2007 as a full-factory oufit. The LMP2 programme will be run from the 123,000 sq ft premises of Honda Performance Development Center. The LMP2 class features protoytpe racing sports cars which produce between 500bhp-550bhp while breathing through air-restrictors.
However, Acura won't build its own chassis initially, attaching its engine to existing Courage or Lola cars.
According to today's announcement, an LMP1 chassis/engine plan will follow, with Acura targeting an invitation to compete in the 24 Hours of Le Mans, most likely in 2008.

Wow...I'd suspect it being an Acura, i.e., Honda, it'd be Japanese.
Especially since it's via Honda Performance center.

Bring it on. Of course ACO/ALMS rules allow beaucoup-bucks clean sheet race motors. If you think Honda racing V-6's are new deal; think again.
The Comptech Acura/Spices driven by Parker Johnstone (can you say "Gilligan-looking"?) won 37 poles, 25 races, and 3 consecutive IMSA Camel Lights Championships from 1989 to 1994.
Trust SLR not to know "Acura" is USA nomenclature for Honda... DOH!
Big splitters/diffusers look like flashing on a poorly injection molded plastic part. No matter; those pictured will be obsolete/outlawed by next year...

Apr 14, 2006, 6:20 AM
^^same q why 2 seats??
Juggernaut
Apr 14, 2006, 10:52 AM
No it doesn't have 2 seats for that matter no prototype racing sportscars have 2 seats They have a bit of space besides the driver's seat to make a vague connection with the word sports car. No human can't fit into that space besides he driver's seat.

one more q
no headlights....is it going to race at night or not??
Tom Kristensen

Woah, It will get a problem on Le Mans without headlights. Firstly, it will be throwed in pit by the marshalls. And secondly, 80% of the track is covered in completely darkness. You are screwed if you lose just one headlight.
There must be some kind of hidden light diodes somewhere. It's all the rage, but it really isn't that fantastic.

^^lol there aren't ne visible ones.80% of the track covered in darkness....lol
Tom Kristensen
Apr 14, 2006, 12:45 PM
Yeah, the rest of the cars are visible.
They got headlights to guide 'em thru the night. - That was supposed to rhyme, but it didn't.
It's the sausage of death. It need lights - white lights, or the rest of the drivers will shít their pants because they don't know whether it's a GT or a LMP1.

I don't know who's chassis that is (Lola or Courage) but all of theirs have headlights because they have to race at Lemans, PLM, Sebring etc. I'm pretty sure there is nothing in the car pretty much just tires and a top. The article states that for 2007 Acura will provide a LMP2 engine to already existing Lolas and Courages. So if the cars have already raced then they definately have headlights. Just for the record too it doesn't matter if it's night racing, your lights have to be on whenever you are out on the course racing.
