Since I just bought a fully specced out rally car, i thought i'd put it here... (Peugeot 206 Challenge Rally Car)
As in the very near future I will be rallying it, but for the moment it will also be my daily drive.
I picked it up today, and drove it home, its not so bad to drive as some people told me it could be... sure it has a racing clutch and close range gearbox... and its very hard to reverse park, but other than that... no worries :)
Here are a couple of photos of the car back at home, I havent scrubbed the plates off, I havent had the time (or be bothered)...

For those who want figures, this is all i know at the moment,
1400cc
racing exhaust system
straight induction
close ratio g'box
racing clutch
dirt tyres
adjustable front dampers
fully plumbed in fire extinguishers
electrical cut off
and more...
just felt like posting it :)

I have always liked the way you think, SubaruKid37. Go radical; you can always use restraint, LOL!
This attitude served me poorly learning to fly R/C. "Use the bigger engine; you can always throttle back." Said throttling back too often came too late at a higher velocity...
Sounds fun!

Dude, thats awesome. That has got to be a really fun car, especially with the close ratio gearbox. Does it make the high pitched noise that you can hear from a race car or Sportbike with the close ratio g'box?
Post some power figures if you know them. And how often will you be racing it?

What layout is it? FWD or AWD?
I hope all gose well for you.

what type of suspention you use,it has a great effect on the rally cars

Apr 18, 2006, 4:50 PM
Mondeo Cosworth... long time no see mate! How is your racing doing? did you get into F3 yet? (i think it was F3 right  ?)
Its not quite a JWRC spec car, its 200cc short :p its 1400cc
Its very noisy to drive, and as many of you know I work with Lotus's, and the suspension on my car is stiffer and harder than those cars!! It jumps speed bumps at just 7mph.. no jokes! The suspension is fully adjustable though, although right now it is quite high on gravel setting.
The handling is good though, the short shift makes for a lot gear changes, and its a straight-cut gearbox, so lots of clunking, and yes, it does whine a lot!
It sounds quite good too, its an unusual sound, it sounds totally raw and stripped... which it is :p
I dont know power output, but probably not much over stock, but it is quicker when you get the gears right... It really flies if you time the gear changes perfect, but i have a bit of practicing to do before i get it right every time :)
I'll be rallying it within 2 months I hope, once I have the insurance finalised and got some events lined up.
Subaru2005, the DC5 has taken a position further down the list, as the next car I will be buying (a year or so) after this is most probably a Lotus Elise Type 25... i know, quite a different type of car, but i'll see how things go.
Oh, and the westfield is still in production, somewhat slower than planned, but still going! When finished, my 2 cars are going to be somewhat extreme for daily use... but your only young and crazy for as long as you choose to be, and i'm choosing to start now :D
I think thats everything answered, i'm off to Monaco tomorrow, so I wont be around again for a while!

Well, I'm having trouble finding a good and competitive F3 car, plus the championship has changed this year, its no longer ARP. I have the same backing as i did in the Clio cup, and hopefully I should be racing next year. I'm doing a few drives with my mate shane this year, so I get some practice and experiance, bcause its quite different from racing a hatch round the track. As for the Clio itself, well thats still sat in the garage with no front end and the engine is on its way back from being rebuilt. The suspension was refitted a month or so ago and the chassis still needs double checking, but the damage didn't compromise the cars integrety. Are there not two classes for the JWRC, 1400cc and 1600cc? I would work on your damper settings for the Pug, 7mph? Bloody hell, I thought the Clio was stiff...

Great news SubaruKid !!!!!:)
I'm very happy for you. I wished I had a nice little scooter like this when I was rallying and autocrossing !
Take care though, take it step by step ! It's never fun to run into a tree or roll your car on your first event...:p

Apr 25, 2006, 5:58 PM
It was built by professionals, no expense spared, they are called LRS (London Rally School), it was once a standard road car, but has been fully converted using the challenge kit available from PeugeotSportUK.
The car has never done any stage miles, it was built late 2005, and then only used on their practice stage for a testing... they sold it at a big financial loss for them to me, and i now have a new toy... which, when it is revved hard, makes a lot of noise, and "slurs" the throttle sound, almost backfiring :)

Well that's not very nice.
If the woman can't stand the bucket seats, she should drive herself, or bring a cushion.

Is it FF or 4WD
Mondeo Cosworth
Apr 26, 2006, 11:03 AM
FWD... I doubt it'll be AWD, its only a 1400cc engine, but I suspect it weighs in at around 850-900kg with around 110bhp. So, have you managed to get any figures from it yet?

when it rains I dont look out the back window :p use the side mirrors instead. Sainsburys shopping goes in my old 206, i'm keeping it for a little while now.
Also, the Jeep looking thing is a fully prepared off roading Toyota LandCruiser, its been all over china, and a circuit around the coast of South America, "cruising" along the base of the Amazon jungle to the southernmost tip of Argentina! It belongs to my neighbour opposite me. He also has an SL500 for his daily drive to work...
and I did hear a request for a video, well its nothing special, the engine is cold, and its dark, im driving with one hand while holding the camera, and im not really pushing it, but until I get something else, here are a couple of videos for you, taken this evening! There will be more... better ones to follow

grand total of £6000, i havent sold my old car yet, not rushing either, the rally is a bit intense, i took it to work today again, and its just not for daily use!
only upgrade for the moment will be some stage driving lamps on the grille or by where the registration plate it at the moment, the car is built to specific regulations, so no real mods right now.
and how can I afford a video phone after getting a rally car?! also, haveing driven it home tonight and running warmed up, it is alot louder than in those vids when its revved and driven hard... too bad i left the camera at work tonight

i'm sure someone i know has one... maybe :-k
well, i live to the south west of london, but roughly 20miles out of London, i'm not entirely sure i'm ready to sell up yet, as i mentioned, the rally car is not really user-friendly, both comfort and driveablility!
If i make the decision to sell in the next week or so, i'll let you know, the normal 206 is 1400cc, manual g'box, with air-con, cd player, automatic windscreen wipers, automatic headlamps, has Pipercross cold air induction kit (a bit of 'wob wob' there :p) (can fit original air box back if wanted), blue twin halo headlamps probably not for sale, although could be negotiated i guess... No other modifications, oh, its just 1k short of 35k mile service, so i'd put it through service before selling it, so you know its been done. I also had the wheels balanced last week, so they are good too, and tyres have tread on them also.
Price would be decided when I choose to sell...

sounds like a pretty good car but i can tell its gona be a bit pricey already lol, i live in south west london, wandsworth borough, but yeh let us know and we shall see what happens
