Prodrive- Subaru's WRC owners are expected to be in F1 by 2008 which means 12 teams in the starting line up - first time since 1995.
Should make for an interesting event since Prodrive ain;'t short on tehchnical knowledge and racing experience.

That's good, I think they'll be a great addition to the line up. As Brain said, they have a huge amount of knowledge and experience in all sorts of races.

That depends on which engines are they going to use, which tires and how much they can develope and test the car before 2008. I'm sure that they are going to be better than Super Aguri who has an old Arrows chassis and a new Honda V8...

Prodrive will make foro good competition. I get the feeling they'll be able to stand up to the manufacturer backed teams.

I don't think they will be able to keep up with Renault, Ferrari or Mclaren on their first year (If they do it would be REALLY impressive) but they will be at the level of Williams, BMW Sauber or Toyoya probably.

That is good for F1. More teams - more competition.
But lest us be real, they dont stand a chance for first 3 years. If they will regulary geting points in 2nd season they deserve congratulation. Anyway i dont think they got enough money to get into battle for championship ever..but who knows :)?

Prodrive in F1!!! Now i gotta start watching F1 and rallys! Prodrive has to have a real good car with all that experience attacking the worst roads ever

You could have 100 years of experience racing every single form of racing ever, but if you don't have the money, you're not going to keep up with the big boys in F1. Prodrive is no small outfit, but they're not a major company, so they're obviously going to be slower than the rest of the field.

they have a problem...their test track planning permission has been turned down so...

^that'll be a major disadvantage to not have their own track, they'll have to travel to different tracks to test which in turn costs more money.

No, I'm sorry, but I'm 99% sure they're not going to be major players.
No money = no chance
I mean, I'd love to be proven wrong, but I can't lie. It can't be a success.

With out money they can't build a good car.

That's great, because it seems like that's the budget for the big F1 teams.

But that comes from various operations of which most are not motorsports related. I am guessing if they are a wildly succesful company then they should have a margin between 25-30 percent. THat makes their profit about 50-60 million dollars. This is the effective amount they will be able to spend each year on their own. rest must come from sponsors with Ecclestone chippin in 20 million TV money annually

I still think it'll be a tight budget for that team. I wonder who they should get to drive? I vote Paul Tracy. Tons of experience in open wheel cars.
