I'm thinking of buying a new car, i'm thinking eithera honda civic type r ( i really don't like the design that much @ this car but i think that with few improvements it can turn out quite well) or an 156 GTA. I know all there is to know about both stock cars. I know that the civic tyoe r is a good car for races but i didn't find yet any way of turbocharging or supercharging this car. CAN ANYONE HELP ME!?!? Anyway what would you recomand me? and what do you think? does it worth spending double for the 156 GTA or take that money and improve a type r? I love the 156 GTA and 147 isn't a choice for me. what do you think? and most important is there any turbo or blower for the 2004 civic type r?

I would NOT recommend adding forced induction to a Type-R... You would totally ruin the car's perfect engine.

The 156 GTA is nice, but it is much more expensive than the Type-R. And larger in size too.

No, I don't think so... Forced induction just doesn't fit with this particular Honda engineering miracle. :D
Trust me.

the turbo makes a bad sensation on the driving and the Type R is all about sensation
also you are going to force too much the engine.
if you really want some forced induction i would recomend you a supercharger becouse that doesnt change the sensation of aceleration and you can use the comptech or the Jackson racing super chargers
you can buy the comptech supercharger in almost every Honda Acura dealers in the US

if u want force induction...
hmmm...
if it doesnt have to be a honda...
try the Mazda 6, they have a super charger (after-market) very soon
if it has to be Honda, around that price range...
hmmm
got a 2nd hand prelude and get the super charger kit....
(make sure UR TRANSMISSION CAN HANDLE THE NEW POWER when adding boost).... a stupid guy at my university blew his transmission....

i don't think there are any turbo kits for the civic type R anyway. I read an article in some tuning magazine. They were making like the only turbocharged type R in britian. It had like 500+ hp as i recall.

It will be always difficult to install forced induction to a Type-R because of the high compression ratio (11:1).

hay vortech makes a supercharger kit that increases 73% power with torque to match and it is only like 4000 U.S bucks!! and they say that it runs really low in sound, wich is great for the common street sleeper. and it is a bolt on kit. but sa super u have to deal with even more heat problems. imagine a moded out civic with a moded out super of that caliber, our can u even mod out a supercharger? only real prob is the front wheel drive but still v-tech are great

Guys, this has been mentioned SEVERAL times. Please! read the other topics. Here they are: http://www.sportscarforums.com/showthread.php?t=1349 + http://www.sportscarforums.com/showthread.php?t=855 + http://www.sportscarforums.com/showthread.php?t=1195. I realize that it is for a specific car ( ) but there was an I4 turbo vs. super as well.

Im sure Vortechs kit is for a EX or DX civic which has much lower compression engines. Maybe its for an older SI too but even then that car has like a 10:1 compression ratio. 11:0 is pretty high. Running more then 2-3 psi would send it beyond the realms of running on pump gas.

Turbocharge and Vtec what a great combination

Sure you could do that, but my opinion is you shouldn't. Keeping any Honda engine all-motor is the way to go. Anyway, who needs forced-induction when you have VTEC by your side? You can get considerable power by just upgrading the engine, not adding turbo's and the like. Just add a cold-air intake and the such. You can get more power with the hassle of turbo-lag and other problems.
Engine performance can be improved by eariler VTEC kick-in with these buggers:
Apexi VAFC (you can control when the VTEC kicks in):

BTW, cross shopping a Civic Type-R with an Alfa 156 GTA, seems a bit weird?

i love turbo but i don't agree with the turbo in type R. one exception if you know anyone that has already put turbos in hondas and they don't have problems...

the ariel atom has a the engine from a type r and its supercharged (in the fasteset version) and it pumps out around 300 bhp. Its engine is still pretty nice.

Why is it the first thing the tuner crowd thinks of is forced induction?

easiest way to get power out of an engine without having any real tuning knowledge or racing background. its aimple bolt on, and thats what the tuner scene is all about.
