I just graduated High school, and am seekin a future career in motorsports, I want to have a dominant role in the advancement of performance technology used in Motorsports. My question to you GearHeads is what should i do to get in that position??? :confused:
All ideas welcomed,Im not interested in Nascar at all by the way.
More about me:I took Calculus and Physics as a Senior, and will be attending a four year Universtiy were i will be Majoring in Mechanical Engineering....I am looking forward to someday not only being a part of Motorsports but Dominating the Field....I believe in Performance through Precision and Manipulation of Numbers.....

Physics and mechanical engineering would be your best bets I suppose.

It's like looking in the mirror.

Why don't you be a designer ?
or as Ghalos said :

There are dozens of new ideas being worked on as we speak concerning alternative fuels, different types of IC engines (like that dual crankshaft diesel bike), and other advancements in electronically controlled suspensions, etc... Somewhere in there is where you might want to take a look. Whatever you decide, keep us informed, and good luck.
Welcome to SCF BTW

That and you might consider a dose of industrial design.
Attending a technical college (mechanical) would be a decent start too.

Wait, I meant "You want to be at the forefront of technology in cars?"
Go study chemistry.
Period.

PB Dreams (from Palmdale/rocket city skunkworks!); do you know anything about cars other than what you read in the enthusiast press? Do you have any part-time work or hobby hands-on experience with them? Can you weld MIG?
Pony up a few bucks and take the ASA L1 test just to see if you can understand integrated engine management strategies as well as a tech who just fixes cars. Wear a tee-shirt.
What 4-year Tech School do you plan to attend? Unless the school (and yourself) is at the forefront of something useful like CF fabrication technique; your ME degree will be as useless as teats on a boar hog to a race team. Most ME's hired by GM in years past probably couldn't have adjusted the valve clearances on an older Accord. I've seen (and bled on) the fruits of their work.
Go to GMI and spend years on CAD design of production car components. If you are really sharp, you might contribute to advanced technology; but, you will rarely see a race track.
If you are a bulldog mech/tech problem solver; darken the door of race teams/chassis builders/engine shops. Offer to sweep the floor 4 days to get one day of real learning. Bother them until they hire you or swear out a warrant.
