Finally the Audi R8 will officially retired from Le Mans race after winning the last race at New England Grand Prix on Saturday at Lime Rock Park. McNish and Capello were winners by 11.812 seconds over the Penske Racing Porsche RS Spyder of Timo Bernhard and Romain Dumas. It marked the 48th overall victory for the Audi R8 in the American Le Mans Series and the 50th class win for the most successful race car in Series history.
It will replace by the sister car Audi R10. Will Audi R10 will follow the sucess of R8?

Well, as with any car, after it's peak things can only go downhill.

The r10 has already proven itself at Le Mans '06 by claming 1st and 3rd. Id say that the r10 will continue the same if not better than the R8, but without the R8, there would'nt be a R10, so bassically the r8 was a brillant race car...

in case you guys don't know, the Audi R10 is actually a diesel engine.
they're using diesel because it has alot of torque and apparantly the acceleration is terrific.

They're also using the diesel because it has a lot better fuel economy...less time in pits= less time in race. Audi knows how to make an engine, that's been proven. The R8 is a great car, it still is, but all we have to do now is wait and see if the R10 is AS good or better. I'm pretty sure its gonna be better, things usually get better as time goes on, it doesnt usually go in reverse.

^ I like the R8 better.
It got me a date :p
Technologically seen the R10 is by far superior.
The main problem in measuring it's success will be that the competition increased the capabilities of their vehicles as well.

I also like the R8 more because of two reasons: 1)It's looks better 2)I dislike diesels.
But how did it get you a date???

the R10 is NOT A DIESEL ENGINE. It is a CAR WITH A DIESEL ENGINE.

It would be fairly hard not to notice its a diesel when it has TDI writen on the side of it.

Shouldn't it be a racecar not a car because it isn't road legal and doesn't have an MOT??
OK maybe I'll shut up now:D

I fervently hope that every survivng Audi R8 winds up in a European museum. If so; I may never have to see one again, even in a vintage race. They represent the one maker series buyout that ruined IMSA racing in the US.

I waved at the R8 and a girl misinterpreted and waved back at me. :D
I bet the R8's will end up in museums but I hop esome end up in private ownership and get used for several events.
That way the cars will be serviced instead of gathering dust.

At least 2 will. Champion is selling their test car for 750K (don't know the chassis number) and selling chassis #605 (won 2 ALMS Titles and a LeMans victory) for a cool 1Mil

the yellow audi r8 was always one of my favourite le mans cars... but then the aston martin dbr9 came along, i watched videos of it and seen many pictures, its gotta be my favourite now... not only cause its a good old british supercar maker, simply cause a db9 is one of my most wished for cars, and now the racing version has been released, i just think its absoltely awsome with its great-looking body kit, the one with the yellow markings and just the way the engine sounded when ive watched the videos automatically attracted me to it :D. well, anyways, back to the r8.. it'll be sadly missed, but with the new r10 coming along, with a similar, if not higher horsepower figure, more torque and a better fuel economy, where can it go wrong?
