YES!

Australian Motorsport is really snowballing, with the excitment of V8 Supercars, Carrera Cup, our national drag racing, stock cars and the various lower levels of racing, Commodore cup etc. (Yes, I'm sh*t with these names)

The 12-Hour Production Car races of old held at our famous Bathurst/Mount Panorama could, or should I say, most probably will be making a comeback.

Basically, with the success of the WPS Bathurst International Motor Festival last Easter, calls for the 12-Hour Production class race are set for a return with manufacturers keen with interest.

This should prove to be really very exciting and with more and more television coverage popping up around Australian motorsport, interest should be very good.

I for one would enjoy seeing the likes of Nissan 350Z, Mazda 6 MPS, Mazda RX-8 (perhaps even the Mazda 3 MPS) amongst others battle it out at our most known and loved circuit.

Oh, and...

The 12-hour production car race was contested at Bathurst on four occasions, the last of which in 1994 was won by Network Ten personality Neil Crompton and the late Gregg Hansford in their Mazda Rx-7.

I just typed out a huge reply to this thread and my computer f*cked up, so I am seriously considering sticking my fist through the monitor.

Anyway - This is good news for Australian motorsport and the timing of it on the Easter weekend is a good idea in my opinion.

The only problem I am having with the idea is the cars that would be competing in the race. I assume it will be all of the cars in the Australian Performance Car Series, of which case there is minimal competition at the moment.

The cars in that series include:

HSV VY GTS
HSV VZ GTO
FPV GT-P
FPV Typhoon
Mazda RX8
Mazda series 8 RX7
BMW M3
Nissan 350z
Nissan 200sx
Mitsubishi Lancer Evo 8
Subaru Wrx Sti

Out of this field HSV have won all except for a few races in the past four years of this championship - Peter Floyds GTS is an awesome machine. The only resistance to the HSV's have come from Gary Holt's Evo 7 & now 8.

Unless all of the HSV's in the field have reliability problems I cant see this being a close race. Last year the GTS's were lapping 2 seconds faster per lap than every other make/model.

I hate the commodore cup, simply because of the age difference in some of the cars. I mean I dont see it as very fair racing a VC with not much power and minimal aerodynamics against a newer VS model.

Is ther going to be a Bathurst 24 hour race again this year? The monaro has flown the flag well for the aussies in the past.

Very doubtful, the only motorsport that I can think of that even might be shown in the UK is the Bathurst 1000, the Indy 300 and the F1 grand prix. The rest are not major racing events and nor is this really.

I get British satilight T.V. and they have V8 supercars, Australian drag racing, Australian Superboats, so it will probably be on one of the Sky satilight channels.

Edit: I have V8 utes on right now. Its Motor T.V.

As a fan of American muscle cars I can't help but love Aussie muscle too. Looking at the lines and features of their classic cars it's like looking at a parallel universe.

They've had some nice damn unique stuff down there too. Like a Hemi Inline 6 and Six-Pack small block V8, both from Chrysler.

I have always thought that Australia has been the home of the 'small block' muscle cars.

Just about all of our muscle cars have been small displacement and had a small block in comparison to the american models of the same era.
