They tend to tip over at those speeds when you turn the wheel to miss someone in the pits! lol

What do you mean by, "I'll be on every so often over the weekend" ?
Do you mean TV? Are you racing?
Anyhow, I'll be watching!

monkeyfkker
Jul 20, 2006, 3:50 PM
I'll be online ... lol. It's an NHRA Lucas Oil Series sponsored event but I don't think it's televised. They don't run Top Fuel there anymore, only Top Alcohol. No vmax, I'm not marshalling anything, I'm driving. Super Gas...

Jul 20, 2006, 7:21 PM
Nah... It's gonna be bad enough wearing Nomex for the time it takes to do my runs, I sure as hell wouldn't want to have to stand around in it all day long! lol

vmax
Jul 20, 2006, 7:28 PM
yeh, don't Nomex racing suits have 5 different layers and then theres the undergarments as well.

monkeyfkker
Jul 20, 2006, 7:42 PM
They're more woven than layered. They're actually pretty damn light. I've got a Sparco Tech 5 that's more comfortable than my riding leathers. Safety equipment like fire suits are the most overlook expense when people think about racing... A Sparco one piece can go from a few hundred dollars up to around $1500. And I pay about 25% more becuae of the size! Damn custom crap! lol

Ran one time trial last night. I wanted to get another one in but there's too many cars. We start qualifying tonight...

I broke out in first round qualifying. Came back in the second round and blew a tire off the line... bad weekend. Oh well, the golf cart races were fun! lol

Harsh luck, were you racing the Monte Carlo (I think thats what its called) that you showed in another thread???

BTW - Whats breaking out?

monkeyfkker
Jul 22, 2006, 2:26 PM
Yeah... the Vega isn't finished yet. Breaking out is when you go too fast. Sounds funny in drag racing, I know. It's basically bracket racing. Super Gas drag racing is based on a 9.90 second dial in time. That's the elapsed time that you want to get at the end of the track. On some tracks, depending on the altitude, it's 10.2 seconds. Anyway, if you go faster than the dial in time, you've done whats known as breaking out. If one car runs a 9.95 and the other car runs a 9.85, the 9.95 will be the winning run because the other broke out. If both cars break out then the winner is the one closest to the dial in time. It's very technical racing. We use a throttle stop between the injection unit (or carburetor) and the manifold. You set the throttle stop for a certain amount of time (I usually put 2.5 seconds in mine) and it restricts the air/fuel flow for that time after you take off from the line. Then it opens and off you go. If you can set your throttle stops correctly, hook up your tires (not spin them), and get a quick enough reaction time... the car should run (theoretically) 9.90 seconds every time...

dam, I though drag racing was just getting the fastest possible time down the 1/4 mile, thanks monkey.

NITTO 1320!!!!! Don't tell me you never played it like 3 years ago.

I used to race POS civics in Bracket with PremiumCars (TFD, Funnys, F1s) and win. I would win by not shifting, and once I got the hang of it, I ran like the exact time every time. Most of the time I'd loose but spending 35gs is worth it if you win a car that costs 4 million.

Anyway, back to the topic. I don't have any experience with drag racing. It seems "fake" to me since most of the cars/bikes are tuned just for the strip. I prefer the regular racing, rather than drag.

Hope you had fun. Put some wheelie-bars on the damn golf card. 40mph??????? You gotta be nuts. That thing will kill you.

hey monkey , do you guys run a delay box in super gas?
in aussie drag racing , super gas cars run these to prevent them from breaking out.
they kinda suck because you see them launch hard off the line then the box kicks in and basically slows the car down to achieve as close to 9.90 as possible. these cars could do 9.5's to flat 9's easily.

EDIT: oh yes i just read that post properly and yeah you do run a similar system.

monkeyfkker
Aug 07, 2006, 1:04 PM
Yeah you're right. A delay box is the same as a throttle stop. Off the stops a lot of cars will run low 8's. It depends on the gearing.

i always thought drag racing was to get he 1/4 mile done as fastas you can i never realised there was so much to it

monkeyfkker
Aug 07, 2006, 1:27 PM
It depends on the class you race in. Some of them are bracketed to get a certain et. Some are get there as quick as you can. There is a lot to it. Look at the breakdown of a Top Fuel engine. It's as technical as an F1 engine. It's not just "put in big piston... let's go fast!"... lol. There's a lot to getting an engine to produce 8000 horsepower.
