Quite a dramatic race weekend, actually.
JB's Honda engine spectacularly blowing up, Webber leaving Williams, Kubica in at BMW Sauber.
But the main story this weekend is Alonso and Schumacher each getting two second penalties in each of the qualifying sessions, for passing under flags.
Stories about that can be found here:
http://www.itv-f1.com/News_Article.aspx?PO_ID=36939
http://www.itv-f1.com/News_Article.aspx?PO_ID=36930
Both tried hard to get up furthest on the grid, but they start 11th and 15th.
Here is the grid for the race:

This looks good for Kimi.
He is pretty far ahead of Alonso and Shumi, as long as Mclaren don't stuff up in the pits he should do well seeing as its ment to be hard to pass there.

Wow, I might actually watch this GP. But I'll be throwing a bun through the room if the Mercedes engine breaks down. Raikkonen can't win the championship, but it will be his first victory since I remember... if he wins.

It was a dramatic qualifying session, with Schumacher posting a 1:18: xxx in Q2, at least a second and a half faster than anybody else could manage and he still didn't get through to Q3! (because of two sec. time penalty)
I think the race will be disputed between Fisichella, Massa and Raikkonen although if Mercedes' engine pulls through I think Raikkonen will take the victory.
It's going to be a race up until the final pit stop although there is a possible overtaking place at the first corner, although if somebody in the midfield runs long into the race on fuel then they could come into play for the victory.

YEAHHHHHHHHS!!! Iam so glad Jenson has finally won a race. All credit to him and Honda cause he had an engine penalty and dropped 10 places during qualifying and still managed 4th which meant a 14th start.
I heard them mention he broke the record previously set by Mansell for winning the race from starting in the lowest position- Mansell '89 = 12th, Button '06= 14th.
The topic of discussion probably should be the Alonso Schumacher fight which was quite interesting- i really thought Schumacher would get some pts but then on the 3rd last lap his car failed!

YEEEEESSSSSSSS!!!!!!!!!!! COME ON BUTTON!!!!!
I'm so f*cking happy that he won!! He thoroughly deserves it and I knew he would win sooner or later. It proves that Jenson is a race winner and Honda can build race winning cars!
I was nearly reduced to tears when that Honda blissfully crossed the finish line, it's been a dream day for me!! I'm so happy:)
I hope this win is just the beginning of many more happy things to come:)

It wasn't the crews fault, it was something to do with the driveshaft.
It was pretty tense, I was expecting a rather boring race due to the first corner being the only good overtaking spot in the dry and not knowing the difference the wet made.

He hasnt finished very many, several times this year he has been forced out due to engine or mechanical failure.
He has been in podium positions during the race on 4 occasions that I can think of and would have won the Australian F1 grand prix if it wasnt for mechanical failure.
I dont even think his teammate Rosberg has had much luck with mechanicals this year.

This Hungarian GP is the best one i have ever seen. ( except the one that Alonso won it for his World Champion title. Although Alonso didn't finish the race, because of something(does anyone know) but Schumi also retired as well so it's okay. Great driving from Button, de la Rosa and Heidfield.

^Alonso's wheel nut (Right rear) fell off, then the left front, and then a spin into the tire wall.
But apparently it was something more severe. I didn't watch the post-race dissection of an hour. =)

Aug 07, 2006, 9:24 AM
His driveshaft failed, it wasn't something to do with the wheel nut I don't think, even though the wheel looked a bit wobbly and you could see something flying off the hub of the wheel, even though I'm not 100% sure, although Alonso said that it was a driveshaft problem when he was speaking to ITV.
Also, I've just found out that Robert Kubica has been disqualified from the results for his car being 2kg under the 600kg minimum weight, due to excessive graining on his tyres, thus losing weight from the tyres. See story here:
http://www.itv-f1.com/News_Article.aspx?PO_ID=36972
That means Schumacher gets 1 Championship Point for eighth place, narrowing the gap between him and Alonso to ten points.

I know, I mean it wasn't his fault that his tyres grained excessively.....I think the stewards shouldn't have really...let him off, as to speak, but not exclude him from the results because exclusion from tyre wear does sound a bit harsh...
2 World Championship points dashed, taken away from him...he's had a bloody eventful debut in F1 lol.

Yeah, quite a few people say he will be Alonso good, but we'll have to wait a few years before that happens, as itv.com/f1 said he would be Alonso good.
He shows that he can be quick aswell, because in Hungary he had a spin from eighth place, went down to fifteenth, spun again, knocked the nosecone off, pitted, and got himself up to seventh place with an extra pit stop, and that is quite remarkable (only to be then disqualified by the stewards).

He would have done pretty well, might have got up onto the podium, because he had the car underneath him to do that (teammate heidfeld finishing in 3rd place).
It's pretty much the same as Nico Rosberg, who finished in seventh place (same as Kubica, but for the disqualification), and he knocked off his nosecone on the first lap of his first race in Bahrain this year, and Williams personnel reckoned that without the pit stop to change his nosecone he would have finished on the podium.
Rosberg isn't performing as well as he was at the start of the season right now. He's languishing back with the Midlands, Super Aguris and the Scuderia Toro Rossos. Perhaps the pressure of being an F1 driver is beginning to get to him.

Me too. I mean, the reliability (or should I say unreliability) record that Williams has had is laughable. Nine retirements for Webber and countless more for Rosberg out of what - twelve races? Williams really need to pull up their socks with Rosberg and Wurz because it's stopping them showing their potential to the crowd. On at least two ocassions, Webber was challenging for a podium - in Monaco and in Hockenheim - and the car let him down. I don't think anybody could understand the amount of frustration that Webber must have been going through.
As for him going to Red Bull Racing, at first, I was against it, thinking he should have gone to Renault, because sometimes Red Bull have been languishing down in the latter half of the field, but then I changed my mind a bit, what with all the new personnel, experience and decent feedback from Coulthard, and the Adrian Newey RB3 next season (every car he makes turns to gold) that Red Bull could be at the sharp end of the grid.
I also agree that the competition is stiff with Kubica - but he has proved himself a little bit - that he can battle through the field and finish in the points (but for the stewards.)

Well, being so relaxed in Cyprus, we totally forgot about this GP. We walked into the bowling alley finding the last 6 laps on the big screen, Pedro tailing Shumacher. Assuming Shumacher was leading the GP we quickly supported Pedro. Suddenly it came up that Button was in the lead, and we were shocked! When we saw Heidfeld take 3rd we were taken a back.
When we called my Grandfather after, who informed us that,
a) Button had started from the back
b) both Renaults broke down
c) it had been one of the best GP s he had EVER seen
we were quite annoyed with ourselves!
But anyway, fabulous racign from Button!

2 memorable things of this race was all of those shards that flew when the STR and McLaren produced, and the other is Vitantonio's reaction when he was in the pits, like what the hell is happening to me, kimi running in the back of him that was great stuff feel bad for both of them though.
