View Full Version : first experience on a race track

i went to my first track event on friday this weekend. it was at the streets of willow at willow springs raceway in rosamond, california, about an hour and a half north of LA. it was a blast! the streets of willow is smaller than willow springs int'l raceway, but it was still decently big. i've never pushed my car so hard as on friday. my lowly integra was probably one of the slowest there, but it wasn't because of the car, it was because of my skill, haha. i took crappy lines, braking at the wrong places, accelerating at the wrong places, but whatever, it was inredibly fun! i've actually never seen so many EVO's and STI's in one place as i did on friday. you guys should seriously consider attending track events like these. it's an open day, you get, i'd say, about two hours of track time for 110 bucks. it's not bad. an expensive hobby, but still it's not a ripoff. and it's completely safe too, which i like. one STI came in too hot on a banked turn, and went over the hill and through a fence. his car came back to the pits covered in dirt and a rear bumper cracked in half. exciting! anyway i was just ranting about how much fun i had. by the way it was a "redline" track event if anyone wanted to know. how many people have taken their cars to a track? (not counting autox)

I know, I can't wait! I'm counting down the days!
I never heard of the Lexus ES300 (not available in UK), but after 2 secs of research, that seems a really nice car - as a first car?!?!?!?! you are so lucky!

well, first of all  it's not gonna be new, so it might not be that nice; if i get real lucky (as in, my dad decides to buy it), i might be able to get a 97 ES300, otherwise it's a 93 ES300, or ES250
but if it's not an ES; it might be an old acura legend coupe, toyota avalon, or mercedes 300SD (yes, it's DIESEL!!!!!! 0-60 in about 20 seconds!!!!!.... have to drive 8 miles (13 km i think..) from home to get gas for the damn car!!!); if everything goes very idealy, i'll get a lexus SC300 (toyota soarer)
but.. if u think i'm lucky, you should see what other ppl at my school drive; we have integra R's, brand new RSX-S, newest camaro Z28's, quite a few classic mustangs, brand new BMW X3 (for the richest people), Mercedes E320 (only a few years old), subaru WRX brand new ( a few sedans and a wagon).. the list goes on.. :x plenty of jealous ppl out there

I am now insanely jealous of you and the other kids in your school
I know that insurance is cheaper over there for you, but an X3, Camaro's Impreza's! The best we got at the moment is Citroen Saxo. one of the teachers drives a Mitsu FTO as well. The best was a couple of years ago a guy in the sixth form had a brand new Jeep Grand Cherokee...
I'm going to get a Westfield soon, but I will have to build it so it will be a year before I can drive it, so until then I will drive some old banger!
Go for the SC300 if you can. We get them here on special imports, and they nice!!!

at the track i went to, there were 2 tracks, one that was smaller, and one that was bigger. all the cars were at the smaller one, and there were bikes at the bigger one. i believe they were professionals though, because they were going at least 140mph in the straights, and sometimes were really close together knee dragging and stuff.

at least one kid has a stang GT convertible but.... all those cars mentioned previously: (jaguar XJ8, some more are: mercedes SLK, mercedes SL500, mustang GT convertible, brand new saab 9-5, brand new saab 9-3 convertible, Lexus LX470, A LOT of toyota priuses) are TEACHER'S CARS, i really dont' think very many students have SL500's anyway; even in the richest area close to here (los altos hills, where the house's are like at least 5000 sq. feet or 1500 sq. meters (sounds nice doesn't it?) teachers have 911 turbo's (i saw 1, must've been the principal's), carrera 4 cabriolets (trust me, this is a really common car around there... damn rich ppl) , jaguar XKR's.. i can't list all of them, cause i went there once for a tournament, and thats what i saw... and if you're talking more sucessful people other than teachers over there, we're talking bentley's rolls royce's (must've seen 2 on the way back home) and if you want more extreme, just ask me about the santa cruz hills

Anyway, returning to topic of 1st trackday experiences, I had mine today with my neighbours Porsche Carrera 4S :D
As well as nearly every type of 911 there is (including the very latest GT3RS :D ), 944's, boxters, Carrera GT Cup cars, plus other porsches, there were also 5 DeTomaso Pantera's, a heavily modded Impreza, Ford GT40,Lambo Diablo (registration plate was D14BLO - very cool!) Ferrari F355GTB, Ferrari 575M, Aston Martin DB7, Dodge Viper GTSR, 2 TVR Griffiths, a TVR Tuscan S, 2 Caterhams and as we were leaving an Ultima GTR and an AC Cobra arrived. Unfortunately only the Porsches were allowed on track due to it being run by the Porsche Club GB! - oh and the Impreza because he was a member, he just "forgot" to bring his porsche!
I am now addicted to trackdays, they are soo good! I would seriously recommend them to anyone with an interest in cars!! It is the first time I have ever been on a race track, and now I can't wait until I can go again!!! :D :D

if i knew someone with a fast car, i'd wanna go ASAP :) unfortunately, all the ppl that did have fast cars that i knew sold theirs (3000GT VR-4, C4 vette, 300ZX)
but because i simply don't have the $$ for a fast car, i'm already considering getting a bike instead...

I think there was a slight misunderstanding there, not the new Carrera GT (but there are a couple who turn up reguarly for meets and track days), but the racing series, Carrera GT Cup -
one of these (old Carrera GT Cup car)

around here, the average house here (that is in san francisco bay area) costs about 640k USD even in recession (about half million pounds maybe..??) a few blocks down, one guy had a huge house (the land, now the house) that he sold for about 1.3 million USD a few years back.. but then real estate developers converted it into 4 2-story houses and probably now worth 2.4 USD total  i wanna become real estate developer now...
