The next 10 races will determine the Nextel Champ, as of last night only 10 drivers will have a shot. Who do you think it'll be?
Matt Kenseth
Jimmy Johnson
Kevin Harvick
Kyle Busch
Denny Hamlin
Dale Earnhardt Jr.
Mark Martin
Jeff Burton
Jeff Gordon
Kasey Kahne

^That's them!

I've gotta give credit to Mark Martin and Jeff Burton for after all these years they've been racing, there in the top 10! This year (unlike last season) we also have Jeff Gordon and Earnhardt in the chase.

And what is your opinion on the "playoff" point system, which was adopted two years ago?
IMO: It's been alight so far, but Kurt Busch won the Cup the first season it was used, and it was a LOT of luck! But in a way the "luck" is less now than before, because if you have a streak of wrecks, you can still rebound... if your good enough.

Note: This thread is for racing/NASCAR fans, PLEASE no bashing of any motorsport, no one wants to hear how much you hate NASCAR... etc.

I don't know anything about nascar cars, apart from a few things about their aerodynamics, let alone the drivers.
So I vote Dale Ernhardt Jr. because CarBoy did, and because he's the only Nascar driver I've ever head of, thanks to Lynyrd Skynyrd.

I choose my favorite driver..........Jeff Burton...........I think he might surprise some people this year in the chase. My heart was pounding in the last few laps of the race, since i was hoping he wouldn't crash or blow up. After last weeks drop to tenth I was freakin out. Too bad for tony but this should put him in his place.

As for the points system, I think the top 10 should have a diffrent points system. Something along the lines of finishing order, maybe the guy who finishes first among chasers gets 10 pts and so on to tenth place gets 1. I think it would be cool that when there is 5 races left only the top 5 are eligible. The points system now is unforgiving for the drivers, in the case that they get wound up in someone elses troubles they pay for it dearly.

Yes, very true! Getting "caught up" in somebody eles problem is a bad thing. It would be good if they did something about it. I also think that they need to award more points for winning races, now they get 185 points, but what if they 300 points? That would asure that you MUST win a race to be in the chase, and I think that would a very good thing, especialy since they want to put more emphasis on winning races.
BTW- Jeff Burton! Nice choice!

I watched a race in Britsol the other day and this came up:

'On Target', 'On The Bubble' and 'Eliminated'

What does this all mean?

It's NASCAR's point system. There is 10 cars in the final 10 races, that are elegible for the Cup. The top 10 are decided in the first 26 races of the season. Some are mathmatically "elemenated". Those on the "bubble" are ~11, 12,13... They can get into the top 10, but they've really gotta move. And those who are already in the top 10, are "in" or "on target". But only very few are mathmatically "safe", that is up untill last night. Now the top 10 will make of the Cup contenders.

The chase is gonna be good this year with Jr. and Gordon in it and the fact that Stewart is out. Jeff Gordon is my favorite driver but I really like Kahne too so either one of them winnin' the cup I'd be happy, especially with Kasey where he is only in his second year. He's gonna be a huge name in a few years. But think of If Denny Hamilin won the cup...first year in Nextel Cup and he made the chase, he's having the season Kasey Kahne did last year in his rookie year except better!

^ Actually I guess it's too late now but you should have posted the point system too. It helps to have it in anothers words, it's better explained to "new guys".

Weeks ago I told my boss not to count Kevin Harvick out. He seemed to have cooled his hothead since last year. RCR hadn't fired him; and Dale Sr. hadn't made RCR used to losing.

Harvick won Phoenix, the Glen, and the last pre-chase race at Richmond. How did he start the chase? Pole/win leading almost half the laps. Look out!

Kevin Harvick has a ton of momentum after winning the last two races. He is the guy to beat.
