I am sick of defending hyundai on this forum, They now build quality cars and are financially in a good position. They will be better than people think if even if it does take time.

Money isnt everything, Just look at Toyota's F1 team.

It's good to see a Korean car manufacturer in F1. It will show people that they don't suck anymore. Just like the R10 convinced the world that diesel isn''t just for super tankers and industrial machines.

I think this shows how stupid we are, don't you?. Seems to me that Hyundais impending F1 entry is causing us to act... Why is that we won't realize things the easy way?

That was my point, They have more money to burn than any other F1 team and they are still without consistent success.

They won't get in. 22 cars on the grid is more than enough right now. The Super Aguris are getting faster and faster, and they'll be quicker next year. F1 is for people with real ambitions, and passion for the sport, that's why Midland sold up so quickly, that joke Schnaider said he loved F1 but he was just in it for the money.

The last thing we need on the grid is some passionless people with more money than brains clogging up the grid.

What will they be called? Hyundai F1? It doesn't make sense will it. I like Hyundai, but I think they're punching a little above their weight here. F1 is for the badass boys. Hyundai are a good manufacturer, but are they badass enough to get into F1?

They'll not build their own engines thats for sure.

I dont know how you can disrespect hyundais, they come with a 10 YEAR WARRANTY !!! No one else does that. No one.

But imagine the company cars.......nice.

Why is this? It doesnt matter at all what the road cars the company makes.
If they compleatly re did F1, new rules, tracks, drivers etc with budjet caps and Lada entered, I would say they have as much chance as the cliche teams like Ferrari and Renult.
Hyundai have the money and resorces to build an F1. If the F1 cars reflected the road cars Mclaren and Ferrari would be the only teams with wins.

Ferrari are going to have a major re-shuffle, so if newbies join after 2010, then there could be some upsets. Jean Todt is now ferrari's CEO and Brawn is looking like he's going to take a sabbatical.

That's the stupidest, most ignorant statement I've seen in a while. How the hell do you know that?

I've defended the crap out of Hyundai and if you guys still want to think of them as the crap company they were 10 years ago, go ahead but you're wrong. I towed cars for many years in Orange County. Guess what percentage I towed the most? Jaguars. Guess which ones I towed the least? Yep, Hyundai. Not only that but they have the best maintenance schedule and dealer based mechanics in the industry. They're the fastest growing car company around and have turned themselves around 180 degrees. Learn a little about the inside of the industry before you make stupid comments...

Aside from being impossible to work on, I love the car. It was a great buy at less then 15K, reliable, good gas mileage, powerful, stylish, functional interior, pretty much everything you want for a daily driver. Anyway the only issue she's ever had was the link arm to the lock on the passenger door handle broke, but that's because she drives around passengers who don't know their own strength.

Hyundai is getting competitive in the car industry and they must see racing as the next big way to expand their brand name from a low end car company to a larger brand. I can't say I blame them.

When my wife's dad gave her our Tiburon I thought "Oh god not a Hyundai"... then I drove it. It wasn't bad stock. Then she let me change the intake and have the exhaust done... The I got a chip and a power programmer for it. Now I wouldn't trade it for anything short of a Camaro. The surprising part is that we haven't had any major problems at all with it which is surprising considering how I drive it.

Yugo F1.............is it coming........don't think so but worth a thought.:)

They should call their team HY-F1................or something like that.

It will be good for the auto industry if more and more companies start to come in and compete.

I say hats off to Hyundai......improving their quality.....make more money.....enter F1....sure go for it.

Hmmmmmm........Chevy F1, Nissan F1, perhaps Mazda F1 with a rotary engine..........imagination at work.

hyundai is a good city car for using daily but i told that statement because they dont have much racing heretage andif they use there own engine they might not have any chance but if use some other engine they will have a chance.

Oct 26, 2006, 11:43 AM
They could use Ferrari engines. They're damn reliable, not having an engine failure for the best part of five years, and they're powerful and torquier. Quite a lot of small manufactueres are using those engines so it may be a good starting block for them.

I'm sure that it was stated that 24 cars is the maximum, and with Prodrive joining next year, it will have reached it's quota. is it really possible to have an extra two?

Oct 26, 2006, 1:10 PM
They want to join in 2010, but like you said, and I said before, 22 cars, and with 24 coming in 2008, I just can't see 26 cars on the grid.

A rotary engine would never be in
1) They have regulations that state they have to be 8 cylinder. If they did somehow get it in they would be banned pretty fast.

2)Mazda don't seem that interested in Motorsport, even less in F1.

I mean, I can see the objective, they've got the money rolling in, because they're creating some bloody good cars right now. But it does take a lot of perseverance to make the car, get engines, get sponsorhips and all the necessities, it will probably be after 2010.

And all their plans could go down the drain, they've still got to wait the approval, and LoH's right, I don't think they've got that much experience in building V8 motors, let alone V8 F1 motors, so it will be tough.

^Who, Mazda or Hyundai? An F1 engine is about as far away from a street engine as you could get so if they have experince with performance V8's really isn't relivent in my eyes.

bennyboy
Oct 26, 2006, 2:21 PM
Probably both. They'll probably want to get with the likes of Toyota - Honda are a bit too far out of Toyota's league now.

Well, even before they start, its obvious they aren't gonna stand up to the might that is the Renault F1 Team - I'm guessing they'll get an old Hyundai Sonata, rework the body panels into something resembling F1-Style, then drop the engine in, put it on some really skiddy tires and send it out.

they could restrict it to be cometative....and it was just a THOUGHT

WHAT.......heard of the Star Mazda Series, or maybe ALMS and perhaps SPEED world challenge???????

that doesn't mean they cannot use another manufacturer for an engine.....or maybe they may make a V8 in the future......

Does Renault make a V8? I don't think they do for road cars, but thier F1 program is killer! Honda sure as hell doesn't make a V8...they aren't doing too bad in F1. It's great to see someone else stirring up the pot in my eyes. Hyundai is making great cars for the road these days, and you've gotta start your racing heritage somewhere. The best thing about racing is how technology trickles down the line. If F1 technology ends up in the next Tiburon, I doubt people will be sniggering about it too much (not that it's anything to snigger about now, really).

The FIA won't let anything other than the designated number of cylinders and displacment compeat.

WHAT.......heard of the Star Mazda Series, or maybe ALMS and perhaps SPEED world challenge???????

Ok I was wrong about that but none of them are big leauges or get muc coverage if any outside of the USA to my knowlage.

that doesn't mean they cannot use another manufacturer for an engine.....or maybe they may make a V8 in the future......

My point was that building V8s in road cars mean nothing to building V8's in F1. Yes they can use other engines but they can also build there own. They have the budjet by a long way.
