Okay I know this thread is about MotoGP But after the evnts of the last few weeks MotoGP deserves a thread.
How do I start?? Crazy Crazy Crazy
Two Weeks ago American Nicky Hayden went into Portugal with a 12 point lead over Valentino Rossi!! But then Horror of Horrors!! He was taken out of the race while running a strong third and that too by his own team mate!! Every body thought Rossi would win the race and t take a 13 point lead over Hayden going into the final round and then win the championship in the final race. But Luck wouldn't have it that way. Tony Elias beat Rossi to the line at Portugal by a freaking slim .002 seconds so Rossi's lead over Hayden was only 8 ponts rather than 13.
Hayden still had a slim chance if he won the final race and Rossi finished third or lower.
Today afternoon 130,000 fans in the cauldron of Valencia.
Rossi starting from pole position but alas Nicky Hayden from fifth. Two fast Ducatis and a Kawasaki between them. The red lights are off and they are go!!!!!!! Hayden makes a rocket start from the line as he lets loose all the ferocious 270 horses. Rossi suffers from wheelspin. few hundred yards later both the gladiators cheat death as the come together for a split second at over 160 mph. But Hayden goes through. Man o Man!! This kid have balls of radioactive material. But whats happening in front?? Another fairy tale is unfolding. Replacement rider Troy Bayliss leading the race on the Ducati!! Few laps later. What happens is unspeakable!! The jedi Master of motorcycling. the Doctor- the No 46 - Valentino Rossi looses the front end of his 250 bhp Yamaha and low slides into the gravel!! He runs to his bike Marshals help him pick it up Then he charges like a man possessed!! He gave it his all But in the end he came in 13 th. Nicky Hayden was running a strong second but the Ducatis on Bridgestone rubber proved too strong for him. He finally finishes third.
Now the maths people. Nicky Hayden ends the season with 252 points , 5 points ahead of Rossi!!! The exact 5 points that Rossi lost by .002 seconds in Portugal!!!! And Unbelievably Replacement rider For Ducati Troy Bayliss wins the race!!
This is the greatest season I have ever seen!! And there were other cliffhanger clashes like Sachsenring, Malayasia Italy and Assen Oh Assen!!!!!
2006 MotoGP World Champion - 24 year old Nicky Hayden (USA)

It would have been better if MS won the Brazillian GP and Alonso didnt score...but that didnt happen.
It was a great race!!!!! This is what racing is all about. Its about suspense and suprises.

While I am not a Moto GP fan I have to say that it was the most enjoyable season I have ever seen. The last few years has been a Valentino Rossi landslide.
Unlike F1 the two fighting it out for the championship are apparantly very level headed and approachable guys.

man i was hoping it wudn't end up like f1..and wallah it didn't.phew.

Troy Bayliss is Australian isnt he? I didnt think he was a regular rider in the Moto GP, I thought it was just Casey Stoner and Chris Vermeulen.
Would Rossi have won the championship if they were tied for points and if so what sort of countback method do they have in Moto GP?
zeyk
Oct 29, 2006, 10:53 AM
i guess it depends on number of wins...jus like f1.

god what a sad day for me !:( :o ... My man Rossi is out , very bad luck for him . But congratulations to Hayden , he is a good rider , but IMO Rossi remains the best rider no doubt about that .

Oct 29, 2006, 10:55 AM
That was what I thought, I was just unsure if Rossi won the most rounds this year or not though.
I guess Hayden's teammate who crashed in to him last round will breathe a sigh of relief.

If both were to be level on points Rossi would have won as he had more victories (5 + 1 potential in Portugal which he lost by .002 seconds and therefore the championship) compared to 2 for Hayden. But Hayden was magnificently consistent through out the year and Rossi had quite a few DNFs due to accident and mechanical problems
25 points for 1st
20 for second
16 for third
13 for fourth
11 for fifth and 1 point for 15th with evry body getting points in between
yea Troy Bayliss won this year's World Superbike Championship on the 194 bhp Ducati 999R. Sete Gibernau got hurt in Portugal so he stood in as a replacement rider and bang!!! He won the race!! Its totally stupefying. Chemicals are shooting crazy in my brain. I have yet to get over the results!!!!

take a poster of nicky and start smooching it or maybe a desmosedici rr...that'll help.

I am guessing you are a Nicky Hayden fan then.

What more!! Ducati finished 1-2:)
I just wanted somebody else to win but I was rooting for Capirex on the Ducati though from the start of the season!! He won three races this season! If he didn't have that horrific high speed accident with six other riders in Catalunya he would have been fighting for the championship this afternoon
I must say I am so thankful to Jesus Christ that nothing happened in that race!! At least three riders came close to being killed and horror of horrors!! Randy Puniet on the Kawasaki could have been just decapitated in that race!! MotoGP riders are among that critically endangered species on earth known as Real Men

Well, I feel a bit sorry for rossi, of all the ways to lose the championship, falling off ya bike........
But he wont be there next year, hes entering rallying with a privately entered Peugeot team, or is that just a rumor on the grapevine ?

What bike is Hayden racing with? I don't know much about MotoGP but Ducati is like the Porsche of the motorcycle racing world, no?
And on a side note, what's that bike in your avatar, Jugg?

hmmm, I was referring to the winngins of Ducati in international racing. Like Porsche, Ducati is probably the winningest manufacturer in racing history.

Mine Avatar is the 2003 Ducati Desmosedici but not the RR Roadbike. It was already producing 250bhp in 2003- its debut season. Right now the figure is somewhere around 270bhp. Ducati is notorious for logging the highest trap speeds and understating its power figures

Not Quite The Ducati legend began with the 1972 Imola 200. An improbably victory for the Italian factory.
If you are looking for the winningest mfr in Motorcycle racing history it would be either Honda or MV Agusta

YEEEEEEEEEEEEAAAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHH!!!!!!! !
An American has finally won the MotoGP championship! This hasn't happened since 2000 When Kenny Roberts Jr. took the title.
Could this possibly be the start of yet another American dominance in the world motorcycle championship? Nicky Hayden certainly has the heart, determination and skill to be the next Freddy Spencer or Wayne Rainey.
And Troy Bayliss, oh my stars, is he my most favorite motorcycle rider currently. He just dominates in the WSBK series. He rides that 999R like nobody I've ever seen. Nobody can push the limits like he can, and I'm not surprised he did well in MotoGP again. After all, he used to race in that series not too long ago.

.
Rainey is my hero man!! Its tragic he lost his legs you should read his autobiography though i haven't read it PPl say its one of the best biographies in motorsport
The other American- John Hopkins is also immensely talented Pity that he is not on that competitive a bike. Now its upto Colin Edwards to produce some magic considering that his arch nemesis from WSBK days won a race. Kenny Roberts Jr. also had a good yr on his dad's machine with quite a few podium finishes

Don't double post.
I didn't see the race because I was watching the snooker, but I saw some of the highlights. I wanted Rossi to win, but congratulations to Hayden for winning. Without that mistake, Rossi would have undoubtedly have been World Champion, but he did make a mistake and the Yank capitalised on it.

Yeah nice one- congratulations to Hayden, he's a good rider and its kind of good to have a different name than Rossi. In MotoGP i used to think was dominated by Rossi but the times i have been watching it have totally showed it under a different light with guys like Danny Pedrosa,Hayden and Capirossi all being very competitive.
Oh and i wanna congratulate Seb Loeb and Daniel Elena and his third consecutive world championship win! ( i really should have started a separate thread but too lazy)
bennyboy
Oct 29, 2006, 3:49 PM
Yes, I would like to congratulate him, and he won it without even turning a wheel! A broken shoulder in a biking accident left him out of the rally, although he needed Gronholm to score a podium finish to spot Loeb claming the title. But a roll sent him down the pecking order, and he ended up 5th.
Congratulations to Loeb, he's also the most successful rally driver in history now, and three world championships on the trot - talk about consistency!

No because even if many new technolgies are incorporated two wheel racing won't get as expensive as four wheel. So rules will always allow for more engineering latitude than F1
