this is what i found.all f1 cars in the next season will have CDG spoilers

Ive heard about these spoilers, there ugly as hell tho. There meant to allow for better aerodynamic flow around the car. this helps the cars behind by reducing the amount of turbulence created from the wing, so the drivers behind can get a better drive behind the cars in front. I think its a crap idea tbh, there continuously trying to make it more even across the field by introducing new rules and regulations. It makes the cars more even but at the same time its ruining things for the more skilled and naturally talented amongst the field, for example, alonso has bag loads of skill, had he of been around in say yr2000 he would of been a continuous front runner along with schuey. Personally i think F1 aint what it used to be, and they need to stop introducing more and more rules n regs.

those spoilers, i saw them on F1 cartoons which F1 could transform something that could boost to around 400kmh...
but its fugly, but if it could improve stuff of some sort, i would like to see it, i hope

this will help u understand the use.but aerodynamics gets screwed that way.
they messed up in moto gp too.reduced to 800 cc.and result................entry and cornering speed increased.therefore making it more dangerous.idiotas.

That's a photsohp, and those CDG spoilers won't be in F1 until at least 2008.
And those renderings from d1-drift king are pretty damn nice. I hope the car looks like that. If looks won the championship, we've already got a winner.

It was originally planned for the 2007 season, but was cut short due to lack of knowledge about the wings, no testing done on them and hardly any development time.
2008 ties in perfectly when the cars get more technological to drive and everything gets a little bit closer.

I already love those spoilers. They look like crap, but damn do they increase base pressure!
As for the McLaren car. I hope it will get that red/white livery that d1-drift-king posted pictures of. Well, it looks red/white, but it actually is chrome/red, I just don't wanna believe it. It's cheating! The chrome color reflects much more heat than any of the other colors of the other cars.

If it was in Spain, it would have been in winter testing, and ITV F1 should have got pics of it. I'm pretty sure de la Rosa is testing that, but I'm still not too convinced about the picture, although I could be wrong.

They increase base pressure and thus reduce the effective length of the wake. It's a pretty damn primitive way of reducing drag anyway - sports prototype racing cars use flat asses, specific exhaust placements, vortex lift, and all kind of stuff.

Also stops all the air buffeting into the face of the other driver.
When you're drafting somebody on a racetrack at high speeds, the air's going into the dams faster than they can filter it all out.
Like TK said, these wings will reduce the ''hot air'', thus making it more easier for cars to get closer, thus more overtaking.

Dec 08, 2006, 8:14 PM
It will be harder to slipstream with these new wings. The front of the trailing vehicle needs to be in the low pressure area behind the car in front of it to slipstream.... but the low pressure area is too minimal these new cars to effect trailing vehicle.

Actually, the CDG wing has nigh on been shelved due to its unpopularity from technical directors, so it might not even be introduced at all. That doesn't mean that the FIA haven't found other ways to screw the sport over though.
Anyway, the idea of the wing was to decrease the amount of 'dirty air' coming off of a car being chased closely by another car, and thus increase the chances of an overtaking occurring. However, it'll reduce the effectiveness of slipstreaming, so effectively, the benefits to the chasing car are somewhat negated by the fact that slipstreaming is harder.
That being said though, the wake coming off a car is horrendous for a chasing car, with non-optimal flow causing all sorts of downforce deficiencies and airflow problems greatly reducing grip, it's hard for any car to get close to another unless they are outright faster in every aspect of a circuit. I mean, slow corners work best in this situation, because you rely more on mechanical grip than aero induced grip, but usually there aren't really any great places to overtake in F1 these days.
The solution? Introduce slicks, or increase the braking distance into turns I think that are two things that can increase the chances of overtaking without having to take a hacksaw to the lovely rear wings.

Slicks are being introduced in 2008, along with a whole host of other technical rules and regulations, but I won't go into them now.
I still think these wings will work though. Yes, slipstreaming may be a little harder but it does, overall, make overtaking a lot easier and you can't deny the face that we need more of that in F1.
I hope they do come in, whether it be for a winter testing or permanently. It will be good to see what they can do.

But wouldn't those CDG wings make it harder to overtake then. You can't slipstream, and the cars are gonna be significantly slower in corners with the reduced downforce.

Well the problem that occurs at this stage is the dirty air that comes off the rear wings. It's not so much a distinct problem between cars with huge performance differences, but it's really evident between cars with only a slight advantage, which usually occurs between 1st and 2nd places cars, for instance.
Say, for example, a car is slowly catching up to another car. At this stage it's great, because the chasing car is in clean air. However, the region of dirty air lies in between the region which allows slipstreaming, and the region of clean air, and it's this region which causes the problems. The dirty air region causes problems for the chasing car, because they aren't designed with dirty air characteristics taken into account. Therefore, it is not unusual to see cars (and I suppose drivers) struggle so suddenly once they get close to another car, as they suddenly start to loose front end downforce, and thus their ability to keep up with the car ahead.
I guess what this wing is trying to do is decrease the amount of dirty air coming off the cars, or at least maybe divert it, so that chasing cars won't experience such losses in downforce due to the dirty air.
