What on earth makes that gearbox so high pitched?

yes or straight cut ones. Is one of those two. some cars have them as reverse. Mine has. I will get soon a complete set for 2,800$ when i convert my car for full race spec.

OMG! That is a crazy tranny, every time he shifts it gets louder and louder and the sound will wreck my ears! Does anybody know why? Also i feel sorry for the driver, but he has has a helmet which should block the noise a bit but then he has to deal with it throughout the whole race!

Also the driver was pretty good...

that driver blaized past everyone. i dunno why the gearbox sounds like that, but most modified race-spec cars sound similar to that. but, that thing shifts like instantly.

I know it's sequential, but I'm pretty sure after the second lap I would proceed to pull out an AK and drive by my entire crew. Then burn the car.

I think it's just the way BMW designed their race transmissions, the M3 GTR (the race car, not the street car) has the same sound. Check out this video, it's pretty sweet.

i dont know, some race cars has these sounds but woah, not that high pitched, i dont know, maybe some crazy special thing BMW has made, maybe they installed a girl screaming and made it more and more louder...the engine sound is great, but its the crazy gearbox, darn, once they released the accelerator, its heaven...:D

and the sound of the E46 was better than the E36, at the E46 one wasnt that loud

I love the sound on throttle all the way up to the half-way of the fourth gear, past that it's quite agonizing :D Off the throttle it sounds nice throughout.

The engine sounds brilliant, the gearbox; not so much!

He must have had one really fast car....went past everyone, quick as a flash, got some good driving skills.

Great driver, probably pretty good car and I have a headach now. There was a thread of a similar topic a while ago though.

That is an ex-BTCC car. It competed a few years ago in the Dutch Supercar Challenge(this video is also from the DSC, at Assen, 2002)

OH MY GOODNESS!!! that gearbox sounds insane... and not in a good way...

2/3 laps of that and you might as well declare me clinically insane... i would start tearing my hair out after a few minutes of that...

imagine how loud it is in the cockpit...

The camera/mic may have been rigidly mounted to the chassis/rollcage and would pick up conductive noise; you are still ALL a bunch of wussies! Straight cut gears are what race cars use. They make noise. Deal with it. And, if your beotch don't like it; tell her to stick 2 fingers in her ears or 1 thumb out!

OMG! The GTR has the same exact sound but, more quiet. That gearbox is super loud though its how BMW made it though
