View Full Version : What kind of motor sport do you watch?

I just want to see what kind of racing people here like. Please don't turn this into another NASCAR vs Formula 1 thread.

EDIT:
There won't be a poll because it said I could only add one within 5 minutes of posting the thread.

EDIT2: I'll watch whatever's on SPEED. I'll watch NASCAR but usually only the last 50 laps unless its a road course. I love funny car drag racing. I wish they would put bracket racing or like a 8ish second class of drag with cars made by normal guys on TV. ALMS is probably my favorite kind of motorsport, but SPEED rarely shows it. I like Formula 1 (Ferrari FTW!) because the cars are amazing and its got a lot more action that most people give it credit for. Grand Am is pretty cool too.

If you want to be seriously depressed, watch that Pinks show.

My roommate doesnt allow me to watch it anymore after I started shouting and throwing things at the TV.

Your initial depression will turn to blind rage, at which point you will flip out. The only thing that ever came of that show thats reasonable is the host eats **** on a bike after he tries to speed off like a badass.

Drag race( no sense) two cars racing in straigth line whats the fun about .

4 second 1/4 mile times, 800+ lbs in downforce from the exhaust's alone, 300+mph cars...

The question is, what *isn't* fun about them?

Sure, it may seem boring, but take a minute out to look at the times they run during a race, maybe just leave it on while doing something else. It's not half-bad.

Open up ye' mind lil' one.

BTW, I'm going with DTM, hands down the coolest racing in awhile. That, or ALMS, if only for GT1. =)

Whatever's on...

That's pretty much sums up what I watch. But I hate "NASCRAP". The only time I'll watch NASCRAP is when they're running on a road course.

I try to catch F1 when I can (rarely), and I also watch MOTO GP and the Mazda Star Series, since that's what is on SPEED channel.....

^^ lol, NASCAR is pretty boring to watch after 20 laps. Going around the oval isnt really exciting when there isnt any crashes.

I occasionally try and watch F1 when i have time.

I love cars/bikes, so I will watch anything with wheels. In no particular order my favorites are with my favorite event of each series:

NASCAR- Say what you wan't about goin fast and goin left, it is a tough job. (Talladega)

ALMS- Some of the most beautiful cars on the planet, and close competition in some classes. (24 Hours of LeMans)

Grand Am- Really close racing that features quick and grippy cars. (Rolex 24 at Daytona)

Formula 1- The most beautiful cars on the planet, not mention that they can outhandle anything on the face of this earth. (Monaco)

IRL- Not until very recently did I start watching. Incredibly close racing at breakneck speeds and Danica too. (Indy 500)

NHRA- Features a wonderful thing called a holeshot. Sounds so incredible and is enough to make your heart skip. (Really anywhere its cool and grippy)

Champ Car- Similar to the IRL except all racing is on road courses, many different winners, and cool looking cars. Also with Power to Pass feature which is pretty interesting. (San Jose GP)

MotoGP- Rediculously brave humans on nuclear weapons simply put. (Laguna Seca)

AMA Superbikes- Instead of nuclear weapons they have JDAMs. (Laguna Seca)

So yeah, I like racing and I watch if I have time, and sometimes it gets rediculous, like staying awake and watching one channel at for 17 hours for LeMans.

I only wish I could see Super GT and DTM.

I like watching Le mans the best and any kind of GT road racing but I am also a huge F1 fan. I don't mind Nascar I think the main reason that people hate it is because everybody knows what it is. I think if everybody was a F1 or Le Mans fan I wouldn't be as much of one as I am... Just my 2 cents. I dont' really care for motorcycle racing even though I race the kind that you pedal.

I watch the V8 Supercars, and on some weekends when the V8's are not on i watch Speed Week (SBS Saturaday 12:00PM) and that has all kinds of racing from F3, drifting, drag racing, superbikes, even V8 powered boats. I also enjoy the F1's though they are mainly aired at 1:00AM in the morning.

Super GT and DTM are motorsports i'd love to watch which i haven't as of yet. Nascar isn't my cup of tea, not enough action like whats in a V8 Supercar race.

F1 is a must, and I try to watch what I can. However, we don't get a whole lot of coverage from world motorsport, and the times we actually have stuff in isn't the best, usually.

I am an F1 fanatic, watch that all the time, one of my favourite sports. Also follow WRC, BTCC, MotoGP, very very closely aswell. I catch the NASCAR (very fun to watch), V8 Supercars and the Rolex Grand Am Series (I like that) when I can. Also British Superbikes is one of the best racing series' in the world. Basicallly, plonk me infront of any type of motorsport and I am pretty much bound to like it.

True... but that's part of the game...

I remember one episode where the guy lost his chevelle to a hard launching vette by losing all the races in a row, not a single win. He got spanked by like 3 lengths every time.

And he had the negotiation skills of a turnip.

He then proceeded to buy his car back on Ebay from the Vette owner, and requested a rematch on pinks.

Keep in mind hes already lost his car to this same car once, he proceeds to try to run every race straight up, losing 2 in a row, the vette owner then FORCES him to take lengths.

The Vette owner as part of his negotiations, wouldent race unless the guy had a head start, and the Chevelle owner still wanted to go straight up. The guy was so stupid that he refused to negotiate for himself, and the other driver felt so sorry for him that he negotiated on his behalf agianst himself.

And the best part is that the Chevelle was a quick car, just the owner was a bad driver.

Unless I am watching live music; I will watch Rolex DP from Sears Point CA (Infineon) Sat 8:00 PM EDT/Sun 0000 GMT. At the same time; Nascar Nextel Cup races Bristol TN/"Thunder Valley" on ESPN. My clicker batteries are new.

Bristol TN is a sport unto itself. 43 cars racing 500 laps X .533 miles @ 36 degree banking = 266 miles of mayhem. I hate short track racing; but his is something else! Winner of 2 of the last 3 races Kurt Busch does real good here for Roush.

Harvick (who befriended/advised Montoya early on) needs to review video of his cumulative stupidity/penalties before he talks smack. Carlos learned to be bad from the worst.

-----

Sunday, ALMS races live on SPEED from Mosport, Bowmanville, Ont, CN at 3:00 PM.

IRL/Indycars race a REAL road course at Sears Point (Infineon) live at 3:30 PM EDT.

GOOD batteries!

Wait, what does that include then, is it just one race, highlights, or all the races, and qualifiying.
But why a week later, kinda weird that you get the results, and have to wait a week to see the race

It's both of the races, the Feature Race and the Sprint Race, highlights of them both in a half an hour programme. Not sure why it is shown a week later, probably the only time it fits into the schedule, but I don't look up the GP2 results, I'll just find out on the Satruday.

I religiously watch NHRA every weekend. The U.S. Nationals are on this weekend/week start...YES!!!

I love watching all the Sportsman & Sport Compact races that are broadcast cause bracket racing is my favourite racing.

I watch DTM when it's on FoxSports , Nascar on the same channel & when they show it , The ATPA (American Tractor Pullers Association) championship...it's actually the world's most powerful motorsport.

Speaking of motorsport (& I don't wanna go off topic here) , what happened with Marcus Ambrose & Robby Gordon last week? I heard Gordon hit Ambrose on the last lap or something & he got unfairly punished...any NASCAR/Busch fans care to elaborate for me?

SteveFX
Aug 25, 2007, 2:08 AM
wes, I posted this in Racing report; but I quote/slightly edited:

----- "The restart order @ 5 laps to go was #59 Marcus Ambrose (kewl guy!), 55 Robby Gordon, 33 Ron Fellows, 41 Scott Pruett, and 29 Kevin Harvick. Watch the video first:

http://video.google.com/videoplay?do...arch&plindex=0 (http://video.google.com/videoplay?docid=-8922449972323746137&q=busch+montreal&total=85&start=0&num=10&so=0&type=search&plindex=0)

Pruett (yellow car) runs a clean inside line into turn 6. In turn 7; Harvick (frequent Nascar thug on probation) punts Pruett into Fellows causing ensuing logjamb. It is unclear exactly when caution was called. R. Gordon got past Ambrose. Ambrose then spins R. Gordon with caution flag clearly waving ahead. Robby asserts that Nascar originally told him to line up in 2nd place. That would have been fair.

Nascar says they told him to line up in 13th place. That would NOT have been fair. Robby thought so and ignored the order; restarting green/white/checker in 2nd. As quickly as he possibly could; he raised Ambrose's rear wheels off the pavement and into a spin.

Again it is unclear if Nascar blackflagged/pulled the scorecard on Robby before/after he punted Ambrose. In any case; Robby's last 2 laps did not count. He was scored -2 laps "parked" in 18th place. Pruett finished 14th. Ambrose finished 7th. Fellows finished 4th. Thug Harvick that started the whole mess got the win. This is WRONG!

Harvick, Robby, and 2nd place finisher #22 Patrick Carpentier all did burnouts!

Nascar raves about their timing loops on ovals that allow them to "freeze the field" the instant that they call a caution. F1 sector 1 loop at Montreal is just past turn 5. Did Nascar lose some luggage; was their timing equipment poorly (furlongs per fortnight) calibrated; or are they just incompetent to officiate a Road Race? Methinks the latter.

Robby Gordon was suspended from the Nascar Nextel Cup race at Pocono Sun. That was WRONG!" -----

Tuff Trucks :D also comp level winch challenges are pretty good viewing.

I got bored of watching Drags on TV, as monkey said it is depressing, not being there yourself is what ruins drag racing on TV, because you can't smell it and you don't have to yell at the top of your lungs to the person next to you just to say you are getting a beer. F1 is too technical now and got boring for me, also as soon as Hakkinen retired I sort of lost my interest but still think Raikonen is going to be the next F1 legend. V8s are only good to see when you are at the track at Oran Park, but the traffic sucks on your trip home.

For lack of more exciting series available on the 12 channels my TV offers I stick to DTM.
Great series, exciting races where bumps are not stricktly forbidden, shoulder to shoulder racing is common and overtaking an artform.

Biggest disadvantage, only Audi and Mercedes at the moment.

I keep hoping that JGTC will be available someday but I guess that's not going to happen anytime soon.
