After the great succeses of Mick Doohan in the 500cc class, Australia has it's new motorracing champion.
Casey Stoner decided the championship early in his favour after a very chaotic race at the Motegi track. The race was won by his teammate Loris Capirossi. Stoner finished only 6th, but with Pedrosa crashing out with a spectacular high-sider and Rossi having problems with his tyres, he still managed to pick up the drivers championship.
Stoner is after Freddy Spencer the youngest driver to win the championship, being only 21 year and 342 days old.
It's also Ducati's first championship in the MotoGP class. After alot of succes in the WSBK, they now managed to win in the MotoGP too. It's also for the first time since 1974 that a non-Japanese manufacturer delivered the winning driver, MV Agusta being the last.

Casey Stoner could well end up dominating the whole of MotoGP for the next few seasons, and he could be the next Rossi. Were it not for a few little niggles he could have won most of the races this season. He has proven himself a very very worthy champion, beating Rossi of all people, and at only 21 years old! That's incredible. Well done Stoner mate.

You must know that Stoner's victory has been possible due to the couple Bridgestone-Ducati. I'd like to have seen Stoner with Michelin !! He wouldn't have won as much easy as this season he has done.
Rossi and Pedrosa's results have been worse this season due to the bad Michelin tyres perfomance. Next year, there'll be only one tyre manufacturer (Bridgestone), so all riders will compete at the same tyre's level. So, we'll see how good is Stoner againts Pedrosa and Rossi with Bridgestone !! I think Pedrosa will beat both Stoner and 'Vale'

^I can see your point but the fact that they had the best combination is the fact of the matter. Cheeky Girl made a good point on a raceday thread a few months ago and it went something like: ''It's not what you deserve in motorsport, it's what you actually get.'', and I think that is totally true here. Bridgestone and Ducati having the best possible combination for tyres and machine have made them worthy champions in my eyes. Of course, I was supporting Rossi because he is my favourite driver but at the end of the day Stoner won on merit.

Well I am more than ecstatic to see somebody other than Rossi convincingly win the Championship ( Nicky Hayden won last year by the smallest of margins). But more importantly this is the first time a non-Japanese manufacturer has won since 1974 when Phil Read won aboard the MV Agusta. This is huge for Ducati and world motorcycling in general. Already some of the effects have been felt. Ducati's superbike line has more than doubled in sales for first half of 2007which is in no small part attributable to Ducati and Stoner's domination early on in the season. I feel so happy that finally a manufacturer outside Japan has been able to build a championship winning technology laden advanced motorcycle. This is the catalyst that will usher back in the players who had built MotoGP prototypes but chose not to race it or raced it rather unsuccessfully like Aprilia, KTM, Ilmor, Moto Czysz, BMW, WCM and the likes.
The big technological development of MotoGP were building 20,000 rpm motors and still maintaining a super flat torque curve.
The other big development this season has been active engine management. A technology which MotoGP borrowed from Formula 1 which in turn borrowed it from ICBM (Inter-Continental Ballistic Missile) development.
There would be a 3D map of the circuit loaded into the ECU. Then GPS system is used to locate where the bike is on the track applied remedies to the power delivery only where they would be needed. 3D maps are used to take into account elevation changes as well.
From Cycle World
"Ducati's system is said to combine GPS with angle-of-lean and acceleration/deceleration data from an on-board stable platform—an outgrowth of the ultra-precision guidance systems that made ICBMs possible. Now the computer knows where the bike is, how far over it is leaned and what its state of acceleration or braking is. But even this is not enough, for every corner has camber that varies, surface grip that varies and possibly change-of-elevation, too, as in Laguna Seca's famed Corkscrew. All this can be mapped—probably Ferrari has 3D maps of all the circuits on which it runs."
Interesting Stuff or what??

I was contemplating heading to Phillip Island in a few weeks to hear the noise that the Ducati makes, Its supposedly a really sweet sound.
Congrats to Stoner, The other Aussies being West and Vermeulen both improved in leaps and bounds this year as well - I know Aussie motorbike fans were worried about the lack of talent since the days of Mick Doohan and Wayne Gardiner in the 80's.

Now us Aussies can enjoy success in Motogp once again.

Well done Stoner. I was expecting Rossi to be the champion but he had a couple of problems. Anyways he is a great driver and very aggressive, i must say.
