It wasn't until I picked up the September issue of Race Car Engineering that I found this out.
The GP2 series has released their new 2008-2010 car for the GP2 series. I can't be bothered at the moment to do my own spiel, so have a read of this (http://www.autosport.com/news/report.php/id/60182).
Anyway, what I got from the Race Car Engineering article, is that the car will incorporate a numbe rof current Formula trends, including a sculpted front wing with raised ends and 'spoon' middle section, together with a lowered nose cone which has been requested to be removed easily like in Formula 1. The car has also been designed to be able to survuve all Formula 1-spec crash and strength tests. As a result, the car is now 50mm wider in order to use a cheaper carbon fibre material to maintain the same results.
Also, you might think the if the car follows a number of F1 trends, then overtaking will be reduced, but apparently the GP2/08 will incorporate ground effect aerodynamics and low ride height sensitivity.

I wonder are they using the new car now.
Gp2 is seriously brilliant race series, with some great potenial.
I really want to see Adam Carrol do well this year, along with Bruno Senna.
Both have better teams this year, so i think they have the most potenial to win it.

Yeah I heard about this car a few months back, it's using a 4.0 litre V8, right? It looks stunning and hopefully it will provide some really good racing. :)

it's going to be faster than the F1 !!!! probably not but you get the point, its fast and its a f1 wannabe.

Yeah I heard about this car a few months back, it's using a 4.0 litre V8, right? It looks stunning and hopefully it will provide some really good racing. :)
That it is (for both points :p). Seriously, get the September issue of Race Car Engineering, there are some positively awesome shots of it, and they're all in sexy carbon fibre trim!
As for the engine, the main reason why they have a larger displacement engine is due to costs. Rules mandate that an engine rebuild can only occur after an engine mileage of 4500km, and you can only have 2 rebuilds per year. Also, the engine only revs up to 10,500rpm.
In fact, the engine and the gearbox are the only 2 components that have been carried over from the old car (albeit being revised quite heavily).

nope, its actually a good thing. Giving pressure to FIA, if the GP2 cars are faster than F1's then FIA would loosen the rules abit to make them faster than GP2's.

10,500rpm? Seems quite low for a race-unit. How much did the old GP2 race car revv up to? Anyway, can't wait to see this in action. Any estimates as to how faster it is round tracks than the old ones? Also, what nationality is RCE? I want to see if they have it here (UK).

Same amount. The engine has been carried over from the past period's car, except they've put in F1-standard connecting rods, pistons and crankshaft.
Any estimates as to how faster it is round tracks than the old ones? Also, what nationality is RCE? I want to see if they have it here (UK).
No info as yet. I'm gonna pull out a figure and suggest it's about 2 seconds quicker, perhaps less than that.
Also, from what I can gather, REC is a UK publication. So it should be around you somewhere! You might need to go to one of the bigger newsagents, as it is quite a specialty mag.
