The 10th Petit Lemans flags off at 1100 EDT today. Marco Werner set a pole record in a smoker audi of 1:08.906, a blinding 1.473 seconds faster than the 7-year old record on a repaved track. Teammate Pirro got his bell rung in a practice crash and the team decided to pull him and put Luhr in the car. They have to start from the back. Too bad.
Dumas/Long were only .133 sec slower and inherit the pole in their P2 Porsche.
The Lista Doran Maser MC12 qualified almost a second ahead of the Vettes. Can they hold up?

In the first two minutes of the race the 3 car passed the Maser. I wonder if the Maserati will have aerodynamic issues because it just has its doors blown off.

Well they said that the Maserati was running on qualifying tires which where really soft and the Corvette boys qualified with a much harder tire. Very disapointing about the #3 vette being wrecked out on the 15th lap by the #26 P2 Acura. Audi made a charge all the way from the back and was quick to make it 1,2 for them. The last pit stops they showed the 2 Audi's got stuck in the pits behind the two Penske Porsche's and one of the Acura's managed to squeeze in between the two Porsches. That happened right before they cut it to Nascar Qualifying so we will see where things are when they come back later tonight. I really wish they would show more then they are but oh well. I want the Audi's to have a 1 2 finish and by the way it's going right now they will becuase they have been consistanly faster but they can't get out a big lead because of all the cautions. Corvette FTW in GT1 which is pretty much a garuntee and it's anybodies game in GT2 with probably the Penske boys bringing it home for P2.
On another note it looks like there probably wont be a GT1 next year. At the beginning of the show they said that the Corvettes will be moving to GT2 and that there will also be a Viper and a Ford GT in GT2. It will be weird seeing the Vette in GT2 and same with the Viper, it seems like that if the Viper and GT went to GT1 there would be some good competition. Maybe the Vette will do to GT2 what it did to GT1 and run everybody off... I highly doubt that but it's a possibility. I have a feeling they wont be as successful in GT2 as they are in GT1.
Haha you think I wrote GT enough times??

The Werner/Luhr #2 smoker is 50 laps down at 4 hrs. The Maser is 5 laps back of the remaining #4 Vette. Dumas is holding 11 seconds on the #1 McNish/Dimbo Capello smoker.

Fine way to watch a race!

The ARCA race at Talladega was interesting partly for all the right-turners that have invaded the series. Ex-Rolex driver Michael McDowell came to 'Dega 2nd in points, but crashed out. '06 Rolex near-champ/Texas whiz kid Colin Braun ran 1st or 2nd much of the race, but got clotheslined on the last lap. Champ Car Champ/Indy winner Dario Franchitti qualified 6th. Railroaded ex-F1 pilot Scott Speed ran well also.
Jacques (call me "Jack") Villeneuve starts the Truck race in 10th (in about 5 minutes). He starts the Nextel Cup race tomorrow in 6th, both in Toyotas.
