This weekend, it's the final race of a really thrilling season - and things can only get better.
We head into Brazil with the possibility of three drivers who can take the crown - those being Lewis Hamilton, Fernando Alonso and Kimi Raikkonen.
Just a fortnight ago, we were saying it was Lewis' championship to lose, but that's all been forgotten due to his agonizing exit in Shanghai. A Kimi win and Alonso gaining 8 points due to second place means that the top three drivers are only seperated by a meagre seven points - so it's all to play for this weekend.
Hamilton leads Alonso by four points, and Raikkonen is only a further three behind Alonso, meaning that if Alonso wins Hamilton must come second otherwise he would have conceded the title due to Alonso having more race wins. If Raikkonen wins, then Hamilton has to finish at least fifth to take the title at only his first attempt.
Surprisingly enough, Raikkonen has not taken a title - yet - and this could be his best chance. He needs the full backing of his Ferrari team mate if he is going to pull off one of the greatest comebacks in sporting history.
For sure, whoever takes the title, it will mean the world to that driver - Hamilton taking his first title in his rookie year, breaking a record, Alonso, taking three consecutive crowns, and Raikkonen, taking his first world title.
Whatever happens this weekend, it is guaranteed to go down as one of the most significant races in F1 history - and for all the right reasons.
Let's hope this is a classic. Let's hope Interlagos can deliver the goods. Sit back, relax and enjoy the race.
It's going to be a cracker.

Hope you all enjoyed my last introduction to a race thread of the season.
Practice times now, it's equal between McLaren and Ferrari.

Is it me, or has the 2007 season gone absolutely flying? Only seems like Melbourne was a week ago! Definitely the quickest season I've ever experienced.
Anyway, enjoy, and post away!
Also, I've added a poll to see who will win the title. Should be interesting.

LEWIS, and ALONSO FTW. Ferrari is going to eat Mclaren's dust this weekend. I'll like to see BMW to get up to the top as well.

Im going to miss qualifying! :(
Im going to be nervous and not concentrating all day long now.
By the looks of things it could be a very close quali, the McLarens look faster but the Ferraris (especially Massa) may run light to try and mess up the McLaren boys' strategy. I cant make a prediction for the race tomorrow, it will be too close. One error, one tiny slip up, one bad decision could end up costing them the championship.
Obviously i want Hammy to pull it off, but if Kimi wins it i will still be satisfied because Alonso wont have won! I badly dont want Alonso to win it, imo he doesnt deserve it as much as Hammy or Kimi, or Massa for that matter. I would much rather see Massa in contention than Alonso but oh well. Tomorrow will be epic! Im nervous and excited, its going to be the most memorable race of my life!

Poll results are interesting, with Kimi and Lewis on 18 votes each, with Alonso only getting half of that. Ha!
Anyway, Hamilton has escaped penalty, but McLaren get finsed 15,000 euros:

Small change to McLaren anyway. I have a feeling that it will be a McLaren weekend, with Lewis and Alonso fighting it out for the pole and the win. Who knows, Ferrari could be sandbagging?

^^Kubica broke down during practice.
It was pretty damn dominant for Massa, was top of the sheet for almost the whole session.
lewis was pretty low down in 15th, just a last lap sprint got him between the two ferraris.
The Red Bull stable are still fast, it seems to have come from nowhere. They were making the Mclaren boys look slow at times.
But the most interesting time there for me is Rubens. He has yet to score one point, but looks very quick here, hopefully his last race and home race can provide some points.

there we go, I was bang on.
Massa was just astounding in Q3, total domination. A 1:11.9 was such a good lap time.
Lewis deffinetly got a good time in, and was very professional in his approach. He got a great middle sector and was careful not to mess it up. For tommorrow Lewis is right where he wants to be.
Webber was another great story, a 5th place puts Red Bull in a perfect position to take a jump on Williams.
But my guess is that Roseberg might go for a 1 stop, we'll just have to wait and see who makes the most of that.
BMW where fast today, and again both Heidfeld and Kubica are so evenly matched its crazy. 0.04 between them.
Bad day for Nakajima, i was really hoping for more from him. We'll just see how the race goes.
But Rubens out of the top 10, nooo. I really wanted to see him hit the top 10. Hopefully the race will provide some opportunities so Brazil can finally provide some luck for him.

Im not getting too excited about this, im happy that hes ahead of his 2 rivals, thats perfect. But we all know how quickly races can turn so i will reserve any celebrations for if he wins the championship.
Massa on pole is no big surprise, i thought he would run light and get pole because he can cause the McLarens some problems without ruining his championship. Ferrari are in a stronger position than they look i think, with the ability to controll the race. I would like Massa to win it, simply because its his home gp, hes out of contention and it would be great if he could finish the season on a high.
Webber in 5th! Wow! I was shocked by that if im honest, i didnt think he would get ahead of the BMW's. Great work!
Im waiting up so i can watch the quali re-run in half an hour! Im not going to attempt a prediction, its too hard and untill the finish i will take nothing as certain. Hoping for a good race and a excellent end to this amazing season.

Oct 20, 2007, 11:48 PM
I'm happy with the Qualifying. Bet this must be the most exciting race of the whole season. It's either Lewis or Alonso. As bennoyboy said, Lewis has to be fifth if Kimi wants to win. It is impossible but who knows! Then Alonso has to get 3rd if I'm not mistaken. I hardly watch F1 so I don't know the points. I'm going to watch it tonight. It's 12am until 1.30am.
This is the last race right?
Timbit
Oct 21, 2007, 12:16 AM
Yup, it is car lover.
Man, is anyone else getting excited about next season? So many unknowns! Will Honda make a better car? Will Renault solve their problems? Where will BMW be? Where will Williams be (hopefully at the front :D)?
Anyway, who knows what will happen tonight. I think Massa will get ahead quite quickly, and he should take the 1st corner in 1st place. However, what happens behind them is really quite up in the air.
The only thing I think will happen is that Red Bull will get in front of Williams in the constructors :(
sonicadg
Oct 21, 2007, 6:28 AM
^^no, don't give up hope Timbit.
Williams can still pull ahead, Rosberg is deffinetly stoping once, and Nakajima might still pull a surprise jump as he did alot in GP2.
The race is going to be won by massa, this is easily one of his best tracks. Lewis might lose 2nd of the start, the same way he did in Turkey.
Usually BMW could be a threat to Alonso starting 4th, but i doubt that today.
Timbit
Oct 21, 2007, 7:23 AM
Rosberg reckons a mistake on his flyer put at 10th, and without it he could have been as a high as just in front of Coulthard, so he may just be heavy. The Red Bulls have been looking handy over the past few races, so I'll be watching closely!

Whoa, excellent prediction mate, you got it correct, perhaps you can predict the future,:p or even the race results!
Anyways i have a good feeling Massa is going to win this race, he put in a good lap in Qualifying which was good enough to put him on pole. Also this is one of his favorite circuits and it's his home soil so that give him some more motivation.
As for the championship battle, i have a feeling in my gut Hamilton is going to take it, all he has to do is finish 5th, and with him starting from 2nd, it wouldn't be that hard, he just has to keep it in one piece. Although i would love to see Kimi win this one.
But the start should be very interesting, i'm expecting some side-by-side action into the first corner.

Its a pitty that Lexis didn't win. It would have been nice to see a rookie win the championship, especially with all the stuff going on with Mclaren this year.
Oh well, Kimi is a good driver, though I wish he pulled this off last year when I was supporting him.
I was also extremely disappointed with Red Bull letting Webber down like that. He seemed set for a 4th or 5th place finish.
Oh well, it was a good race. Bring on Melbourne 08.

Kimi took the championship. It was a fair race. That was a bad race for Hami. I couldn't believe what happened to Hami when he slowed down. That was so unbelievable.
Kubica made me happy. He was so fast. Bravo BMW.
Also we saw a lot of accidents. Did you see what Nikajama did? He injured his mechanic... It was a really great race. I really enjoyed it.
Great job Kimi.

I am feeling such a mixture of emotions right now its hard to put them down.
First off, Kimi deserves the championship, so i am happy for him. He had the greatest never give up attitude and pulled off the greatest comeback ive seen since Liverpool beat AC Milan in the champions league final. That was an epic comeback, topped off with a perfect drive to clinch the title.
Second, as i write this i wandered off to watch some more of the comments and my mood has completely changed from what Anthony Hamilton said to ITV. They said that he must be feeling dissapointed for loosing it and he was smiling saying that he wasnt dissapointed but was actually happy with it, he said he never dreamed of Lewis fighting for the championship in his season and it was amazing that he had gotten this far. So now im not sad but happy, and amazed at Hammy.
Im dissapointed for Hammy, imo it was McLaren's decision at China that has cost him this title. But theres always another year. How ironic though that Hammy had the fresher car and it was his that had reliability when everyone was watching Alonso's car.
He has proved this season that he is going to be the man to beat, even though the championship slipped through his fingers at the final race, he has still been the most incredible person ever to come into the sport. It wouldve been ridiculous in Melbourne to say that Hammy would be in contention to win the championship, and yet he proved that he has skills way beyond what we couldve predicted.
Also, if Hammy couldnt win it I wanted Kimi to win it, because i would rather see anyone win it than that arrogant ungreatfull spaniard.
Congrats to the new champion, Kimi Raikkonen!
Nephis, you need to change your sig remember! XD

Everyone in my hall was shattered. England has had 2 days of pure disappointment. First the rugby and now F1. It was undoubtedly a great race and finally, Kimi has won his first championship!!!! He deserved it. Bad Luck to Hamilton, but he's been having the best of luck throughout the season but when it mattered most, he had none.
This is what F1 is all about, the intense battles, the fight backs and the heart breaks. As Nemphis has been telling us repeatedly, 2007 - Kimi's year and 2007 isnt Hamilton's year. He nearly had the Championship in the bag but he lost it because of bad weather in China.

Its so easy to pin the loss on one event. You could pin it on the wheel gun failure in Germany. Or the tyre failure in Turkey. Or France when he was passed by Kimi off the line and struggled with pace all race. There are so many factors to consider, but i think its down to China, without that DNF he would be champion.
I still think its incredible that a 17 round championship, god knows how many laps, all came down to 1 point! That just shows how incredible a season it has been.

Oct 21, 2007, 3:46 PM
Also, the most shocking thing is that despite Alonso only having one un-forced error in France, he still couldn't win.
Lewis's tyres failed him on 3 separate ocassions, yet he still held of Alonso.
Also, Rosberg ended the year in flying colours, he was simply brilliant, he got past Kubica at the end again. The battle between Heidfeld, Roseberg and Kubica was one of the highlights, great stuff when Kubica went around both Nick and Nico.
I also had to laugh at Nakajima killing his own pit crew, will he a get a race seat next year, nah.
I had another laugh at James Allens reaction to Lewis overtaking Button, "that was mad, that was crazy, it was majestic." One day he will atempt to marry Lewis Hamiliton.

Yeah, Alonso has had a flawless car all season, and STILL couldnt beat the rookie!
I was amazed at Nakajima's incident, that just shows up how inexperience can mess something up so much.
Also lol'd at that comment! :p But to be fair it was an epic pass, he was a mile behind and just went through past Barrichello like he wasnt there. If anyone doubts his skills after that, then im sorry, you shouldnt be discussing F1.
Not really turbinas, i am gutted that he didnt win, but i can find positives out of it. He is the most sucessfull rookie in the history of the sport, he consistently beat the double world champ in an identical car WITH more problems.

That got my shitting my pants in 7 colours. I already saw it happening that they would drive each other off the track, and Hamilton finishing 5th. Great fight none the less.
Oh yeah, on an other note: Ferrari would have won the constructors championship without McLaren's disqualification. Ferrari would have scored 204 points, and McLaren 218. But McLaren would have been stripped of their Hungary points for that pitstop fiasco. That were 15 points, giving them a total of 203 points.

I think life has come full circle for Kimi. Remember that in his McLaren days, he was plagued by reliability issues which I strongly believe prevented him from winning at least one championship. So I think it is right that the reason he wins the championship finally is due to the reliability issues of his old car.
I mean sure, the cars have changed, but its nice to see it turn out that way.

I did like Kimis little speach
Kimi Raikkonen, Ferrari (1st):
"It is very difficult for me to explain in words what I am feeling at the moment: it is an incredible emotion. I want to thank the team for everything they have done this year. Even when we went through some difficult times and it looked as though there was no way to fight back, we never gave up and this work produced its reward today. Thanks also to my parents, to my wife Jenni and everyone who believed in me. I have achieved what I have been after for a long time. Now everything else will be an extra. Today, Felipe's help was vital and he was amazing. We had to get a one-two and then see what the others did. This time, things went our way and the unexpected did happen. This has been a very nice year for me during which I have enjoyed Formula One like never before. In Ferrari, I have found a great family and I am proud to have won the title with them."
Though i thought Kimi might of did the whole thing of giving massa the trophy as an acknowledgement that Felipe had to give up a home race win for Kimi to win.
The Same way Schuy did with Barrichello

Apparently Williams and BMW have been called into the stewards for running an illegal car or something. I dont know exactly what has happened but theres a chance they may be disqualified from the race.
If that happens Hammy will move up into 4th and win the championship.
I doubt that will happen, but still after the championship is over there is still controversy! What an epic season!!

Probably just nothing, so dont get your hopes up Hammy fans, i certainly am not. :(
*Apparently the Williams and BMW's both failed post-race fuel checks.

Still a sign of hope, Hammy!! lol

It wouldn't be the way he wanted to win, but winning's winning. At least if Hammy does win, GB will have gotten something out of this weekend!
Apparently it's to do with a 'fuel temperature irregularity', and concerns 3 cars(?) I hope it means Hammy wins, I think he deserves it; especailly being a Stevenage boy like me!
Chris.
I don't think Hammy should've won. He made enough mistakes in the past 2 races that could've sealed the championship for him, but he didn't capitalize. I especially wouldn't think it's right considering he fell to 18th today and was ahead of the BMW cars at the beginning of the race.
All he had to do was hold position. Didn't even do that.
Kimi is also the winningest racer this season. Let him have it.

But he dropped to 18th through no fault of his own, he wouldve won it without that gearbox problem. The last race was more McLarens fault than his fault so you cant say he isnt deserving. Imo both Kimi and Hammy deserve the title. They should both get it! But if one has to, i would say Hammy has driven the more consistent and hes been incredible all the way through his rookie season. By all that has gone before we shouldnt even be discussing the possibility if a rookie coming any where near winning it, let alone weather he deserved it or not.

I disagree. He took some unnecessary risks right in that first lap. Could've just fell right in line with Massa and Raikkonen and won. He wanted to push, fell off track, down to 8th after that 1st lap mistake.
Could've driven smart for points instead of so hard for the win in the previous race, but DNFed.
If you compare the results for the season for both Raikkonnen and Hamilton, I think Kimi is clearly been the more reliable driver.

I don't care of he's a rookie or not. I do have an issue when the winningest driver of the F1 who has been among the most consistent drivers of the year, doesn't win the title, just because of 3 BMW cars and their fuel temperatures. The only times Kimi has cracked was because Ferrari reliability midseason.

You make it sound so easy, i'm with beaver. Maybe not in the last couple of races but hamilton has been more consistant and has been in the lead since may. Shame the car let him down at this crucial stage.

But Kimi has a distinct lack of a persanality, like a new Mika Hakinen - boring as hell. At least the others have their own personality:
Hammy- young, exciting, lots of carisma
Alonso- Seems older and wiser, is great at being miserable
Massa- Different, a personality that can't be defined, but is there
Kimi- Boring, complete lack of enthusiasm in interviews
What do you think?
Chris.

Before Germany Lewis was easially the most consistent, after Germany Kimi was slightly more consistent. Both are pretty equal on all things, but Hammy was consistent straight out the box, Kimi took untill Turkey to be as consistent as Hammy.

hamilton should have won the title and still possibly can. Kimi is a good driver but boring as hell, his monotone voice is annoylng.

Well that's since may.
If you look at late July when he was in the lead, the results were sporadic.
Looking at Kimi's results, one was skewed because of an engine change in Ferrari and 2 DNFs (whatever reason, wasn't on Kimi) because he was top 3 in the grid both times.
If anything, that's how Kimi was able to win the championship despite 2 DNFs. Incredible podium consistency and most wins.
I just think that Hamilton had the opportunity to seize the championship and he squandered it within the last 6 races with inconsistent results and some poor decision-making during the race.
Start grid 2nd. Finish 5th.
Start grid 1st. Retire for missing pit lane.
Start grid 2nd. Finish 7th.
Not exactly reaching out to take a championship.
Aside from the 2 retirements (from which I recall were Ferrari reliability issues, not driver error), Kimi was equal to grid place or improved. No major dropoff sans Canada where he was 4th in grid and finished 5th.
I hope the point comes across where not only do I think Kimi deserves to win because he has the most wins, but the most consistent driver all season despite the 2 DNFs.
I don't care about driver personality. I do care that the best driver for the year with the best talent for the year deservedly wins.

I gotta say its just Kimis luck that this would happen isn't it  !!!!
I guess we will tell if the FIA are up Ferraris ass now because if they ignore it then yeah I'm cool but if they go ahead I'm not soo cool and I will start to think the FIA wanted 'the wonder kid' to win the championship all along and lets face it, he hardly set the grid alight today with his driving did he ??????
I just really hope the FIA give financial penalties instead of disqualification penalties !
Just Kimi's luck isn't it  ?????

Still dont think that a penalty will be dealt, at least not a disqualification. They are probably looking at a good fine though.
I still think that Kimi will stay champion, this news is just delaying it and giving us Hammy supporters false hope. :(

I dunno, it's a pretty damn serious offense. It was giving them about 10-20 more bhp, apparently.
What I think the FIA will look at, is how such an advantage played into the final results. If they think that without it, the results would have differed so much that Lewis would have been champion, then I wouldn't at all be surprised if time penalties are given.

Imo, if it was any other race they would get disqualified, but considering this decides the championship, they wont disqualify them.
I think they should be disqualified though, they had an illegal advantage over their competitors and should be punished for it.
If they do, YES! WOOOOOT!
If they dont, oh well, he had lost it anyway and id already gotten over it.

The stewards probably won't disqualify; just award no constructors points. That sounds right; I was thinking they'd just give them a penalty - it's not like McLaren should be complaining, their drivers were lucky to get away with their points, but no constructors, and for a much more serious breach of the rules.

I understand that but at the end of the day Kimi deserved this title more than any other driver and after years of knocking on the door he finally got but to be told 'well Kimi you might not have it just yet.' thats like saying you 30 but now I'm taking 20 years off your life away (weird I know !).
