The name Audi R8 was born on the race track, so it was only a matter of time to see it back in an endurance race. Yes, in 24 hours, but not in Le Mans, where the R8 conquered between 2000-2005. Now, in 2008, a specially prepared Audi R8 supercar will make an appearance in 24 Hours of Dubai. The Dutch tuning specialist Creventic BV is preparing the CR-8 for an assault on endurance sportscar racing. Nevertheless, there are not many changes on the supercar. Creventic CR-8 is powered by the standard 4.2 liter V8 engine with remapped engine management system giving ten horses more than the production car with 420 hp. Creventic removed the factory-installed low-gear restrictor, as well as a host of baubles and bolt-ons to the body to bring it up to race spec. 18-inch BBS competition rims wrapped in Toyo racing slicks are put in place, a 90-liter racing fuel tank installed and AST suspension components mounted at all four corners.

Creventic has put a race-spec sequential gearbox and also carbon fiber body panels, trying to get more speed. The diet of the Dutch specialist proves to make some 300 kg less to now 1350 kg chassis.

24 Hours of Dubai in 2007 was won by BMW Z4 M. The first pair of CR-8s will be shown next month at the Dubai Autodrome in the United Arab Emirates for a race-track shakedown and public unveiling with the first customer cars to be delivered shortly thereafter.

The looks are great. I'll love to see it on the track.
Can someone tell us, this specs in which GT class put it in Europe?!

I would quite like one / a lot / please.

Looks good, early January '08 delivery for the first ones off the line, unfortunately my order has been delayed...

Jokes aside, I wonder if we'll get any coverage of the Dubai races? The Aston V8 will have a whole series, which we may not even get to see. It seems pretty annoying that all the money is out there at the moment. Funnily enough, the job I'm currently working on is for a new 'super hotel' in Dubai. Damn them and there riches!

Chris.

Looks pretty good I reckon. Exhausts coming out of where the numberplate would be is pretty cool, I suppose. Will be interesting to see how this does in the actual race, hopefully it will do well.

I dont like how the way the exhaust is placed, and i dont like the looks of those exhausts. The spoiler doesnt suit the car every well either, but the rest is pretty nice.

I don't like the car itself, it's ugly and pathetic.

Isn't Audi already racing in Le Mans with a car named R8? :P
This is the road car.
I dont think they will put that in any racing except some unofficial ones, besides Audi.

You're thinking of the predecessor of the R10, which is currently being operated by Audi in the Le Mans 24 hour race, and is also used by other teams in other endurance events (at least I think so).

They changed the car to the R10 after it underwent major changes both internally and externally, including a new V10 diesel power plant and refined aerodynamics.

I am REALLY not feeling the aesthetics of this car in the slightest.

Bad colors, bad wheels, bad exhaust, bad spoiler.. I mean I hope it WORKS for them, but visually it's disgusting.

I just think it's funny that they took so damn long to actually get the Audi Le Mans, into Le Mans

Because it's a racecar, I don't really care too much about the looks. It's not TERRIBLE. I mean, I'd drive that thing if I was offered the chance. I hope this works out for Audi, anyways.

Looks alright really. But usually if a car does well in motor racing a track version of that car goes into production. We could see a stiffened up roll-caged R8 on the roads soon. Would be a good rival to the GT3RS.

That was the concepts name, the Audi R8 was a race car and it got its name from that.

I think its quite ugly compared to the Street version. This race version kinda looks... well.. terrible. I don't see ANYTHING I like about it over the road car.

EDIT: IT has one good thing. The LED headlights look like they're gone, I don't like them lol.

I don`t like it, because it`s gloss. The normal version is chrome. Audi Le Mans Quattro was the original concept car. It wasn`t in production. It was made 5 years ago.

I think you will find that the V10 model, the team running it was running lambo v10 gallardo for two years at the ring 24hr and one of the guys in the team said that the V10 in an audi in 2008.

I will say this, sort of the Aston Vantage models these are two of the most attractive looking race cars I've seen in a long time. I love what they did with the angled rear exhaust coming out of the center of the rear of the car. I like their choice of rims on the cars as well as the paint schemes. I think they will do well on the track personally. I bet they must sound damn good. Too bad I don't get SPEED channel anymore, I'll have to try and find the race online somewhere after its taken place.

I get it now, doh! "R8 back in racing" means the "R8" nomenclature back in racing! I am so proud...

The "R8" looks so much like a mass-production coupe that the only surprise is that its V-8 engine is NOT buried in its oversized, high drag looking fat nose!

I'll save an edit. Sue Me!
