Today at 2pm (uk time) 220+ cars with 400+ Drivers will be racing for 24hrs around the nurburgring.

Some of the entries contain 2 Vauxhall/Opel Astra Estates, BMW 840, Holden Commodore, Volvo S60, Opel Manta, Fiat 500 (new shape), Audi R8 to name a few

I will be listening to the race live and the Eco Fuels (boo!) will be intresting to see where they finish overall and their lap times. Also to hear of the new 500 already racing before the Abarth versions isn't much of a suprise as the Lexus LF-A & Volkswagen Scirocco making their debuts before production.

At the bottom of the post is the link to the radio station covering it.

Awesome. Top 30-40 is not bad considering it's class and power.

I enjoy the ring 24h more than Le Mans now, if you can go then do. We stay at a place called sliders, owned by a brit who has some great storys and vids. Oh and plenty of beer in the fridge

Woow
For the 2008, over 270 cars were entered, of which only 230 could be accepted. The race began in sunny weather with drama for the favorite Porsche teams of Manthey and Land, losing time with a leaky radiator and a tire failure, and the new Alzen 997 Turbo and the Zakspeed Viper battling for the lead. After the Viper was out, only the BMW Z4 of Claudia Hürtgen, pole setter and winner of the recent VLN race, could challenge the Porsche armada and lead for some laps, but it crashed during the night.

Manthey could catch up and win the race for a third time in a row, with the winning car of 2006 (a 996 model) finishing 2nd. The triumph made the team mechanics cut off Olaf Manthey's famous moustache tips. Sabine Schmitz came in third, also on a Porsche 997. A strong showing among the high powered cars gave the three new Volkswagen Scirocco, finishing 9th and 12th, with veteran Hans Joachim Stuck driving both cars.Yes its wiki but I believe its true :D. Very very impressive!

jamesk, the land around the Ring is private property? How are going the prices? It will be great to buy one... ough Im already dreamin...

Were the Sirocccososococoos "production" cars or were the race modified?

Also, what the hell engine is planned to go into that thing? I've heard like 20 different engine types ranging from a normal 2.0L non turbo to a W12, so I really have no idea.

Do you think it will immediately be replaced by the much better Corrado?;)

Also, I really want to know exactly what the Scirocco is going to be? Is it going to be faster than the R32? FWD?AWD?RWD....ehh, scratch that, small rwd cars only exist in my dreams.

Basically what I want to know is, how is it any different than a Golf?

It's not different at all from the GTI. Same engine (2.0T), same platform (porky FWD), same chassis (VWAG FWD chassis). Just looks different, is a bit wider, and with a lower roof.

Just like the original Rocco.

And we aren't getting it in the US, so don't care. It's easy.
