The Formula 1 is a Super Car, specificly to break speed endurance doing a 0 to 60 in 2.7 seconds, on a 1/4, thats like a 1.8:eek: . The Indy's are fast but start Really slow of the line because they use a Fast back Acceleration, making the Indy's top speed at 300 to 400 mph:D , but it can take a while. So as for speed, its kind of a tie. The only difference is, one will get there faster and the other is fast... look at it like that.:-k

Formula One is far more advanced than any other racing in the world hands down. Indy car is just an open wheel version of Nascar...mostly Oval tracks. F1 uses road courses and thus require more engineering. Also F1 is made to compete between different manufacturers and their technology. Indy is basically two engine suppliers, two chasis suppliers, and a bunch of teams using these setups. In F1, each team creates their own car, within FIA regulations of course, but none the less their own creations. The only thing that is shared between teams in F1 is the Tire Supplier where Michilen is providing just about everyones tires, the other being Bridgestone. But you are right about F1 being more attractive...much more time is spent on these cars and have more soul.

I don't watch the IRL or CART or Toyota Atlantic Championship or whatever they're called. It's too commercial and too hard to follow. Nobody really sticks out as a good driver. Plus, you can't beat the devilish screech of an F1 car. It's just more sophisticated.

f1 is WAY better if i know what indy is. Indy is jsut driving a car in a straight line/circle. F1 takes skill and there turns

F1, cooler tracks, better looking cars(I actually think some F1 cars look pretty nice), faster. Better drivers?(no clue who drives in Indy...)

Nivlek: Indy takes skills too. Try to drive at almost 400 km/h at 10-20 meters behind the car in front of you. Good luck.

A fact is... every ex-F1 driver who took the wheel of an Indycar, had a nice meeting with the external walls first thing in the morning. It's definitely not driving in a straight line.

indy is easier! thats why go first to indy or F3000 and then to F1!

F1 for me, cause they are much more advance in tech., and more competetion around those huge companys like Ford, Ferrari, Mercedes, BMW, Renault, Toyota, Honda and so on spending millions and millions of dollars each year for new designs in engines, chasis and mechnical and electrical components which we can enjoy a few years later in our own car,
PS: F1 can be turned just as fast as an Indy, to turn down the down force angles, but than it will fly out of the corners!

Dude...F1 is so much more difficult.
Prime example being....

Go to Game-works..Next to the bar area what do they usually have set up besides "golden tee" and bowling games? Indy car games.....Not F1 games, the F1 games are always down by the other "racing arcades"

Really, until you have sat in the seat of each, are any of us qualified for which race takes more skill.

As for Formula 1 being boring, watch those cars snap into a turn, touching momentarily 5 G's. These cars and their drivers are sick.

Of course F1. Indy is just for US, terrible pilots, terrible cars, less tecnology, less prety girls...

F1 rocks simply no contest. Instead we should talk about CART vs INDY, which is better. My vote is for CART/ Champcars.

fully agree with you. F1 cars look great, much better than Indy cars. Indy cars have a more simple design whilst F1 cars have more shaped front and rear wings and a more complicated body design, with more sophisticated aerodynamics and engine. I like F1 better.

F1 Rules. Champ car is the F1 U.S. Wanna be and not INDY. I like both. one is an aero/space tech materials car designed for all areas and other just for pure speed. INDY drivers say that F1 cars are more easy to drive due to electronics aids. take then off and then they will be more dificult to drive.

However, since you know jacques merde about cars, hyperbole only plays to the slow folks/short bus riders.

F1, with it's $400 million budgets, greater technology, better tracks, and the support of the world's best auto makers should be better than Indy, but its not. The economic disparity in F1 has created a situation in which 3 teams contend, and the rest are perrennial back markers. Christ, the cars for the last few years were so aero-dependant that they could barely overtake without someone pitting. Races should not be won and lost by carrying the right fuel load into qualifying. Not much of a show if you ask me. Indy however is higher-speed, more competitive racing with more passing. Hopefully F1 can get back on track for 2008 with the new rear wing design and the return of mechanical grip to racing in Europe. The '06 regualtions should already help some with the 2.4L V8's.

Driving cars into circles is so boring and unuseful.
For that reason I go for the F1

two different things...if you want driver talent Indy or champ karts will show that, everyone has the same thing, and everyone takes risks to overtake, its a but more fun, expcept for the goign around circles part, but the Champ series has more than half its races in circuits if im not wrong...havnt watched it since Montoya left...

F1 these days and dont get me worng i love f1, has become too comercial, its all about who has the money to build the right car, who chose the best tire/fuel combination....the driver is so used to electronics you barly feel he is drivng the car anymore. Plus overtaking became a pain, you cant drag behind someone anymore because the minute you pull out to overtake you loose all frontal airforce...i hope it changes for its sake.

^Yes. If you just slip the throttle in a Formula 1 car, it would have the same power as a catastrophe braking in a normal road car.

Appropriately named bobdull started this thread. He's been gone 2 years.

hsvspeedo (does he wear them?) reopened it after 18 months. DULL!

Read the rules! Don't reopen old threads unless you have something worthwhile to add! So far, you don't.

Formula 1 cars are fast in both terms. Speed and cornering. They are ment to perform the best in all area's. While Indy is a open wheel racer that was ment to go fast in speed. not cornering. They are tuned to such a low downforce, they literally cannot corner at high speeds.

And yes, this is a really old topic.

I wish i could see a F1 car such as the one's from Michael Schumaher or Fernando Alonso, on the ultimate track: Nurburgring!!!

I know, old thread, but I can answer this, and hopefully give a piece of info to everyone:

If i remember correctly, Nurburgring use to host F1 races, until some guy died during a race i think.

The track was becoming notorious for the danger it brought to drivers. It was, and always had been, a dangerous circuit. Back in the early years of the championship, the 50's, Fangio drove out of his skin to come from behind and beat the Ferrari's of Collins and Hawthorne. Such was his speed, and such was the circuit, that he couldn't sleep for three days.

The trouble was, though, was that the cars kept getting faster and faster, and were increasing the danger the drivers faced. Although a number of slight circuit changes had been implemented over the years to increase safety, it was still dangerous enough for Jackie Stewart to call it 'The Green Hell'.

In 1967, Niki Lauda tried to get all the drivers to stand against racing that year on the ground of safety. It hadn't been the first time it happened; Stewart had tried to do the same thing a couple of years previously. However, in that race, Lauda suffered a mechanical failure, and suffered an horrific accident, such that most of his body as burnt. The proper emergency vehicles took just too long to get there, and they weren't slow cars either (although what they were escapes me a this time).

Apart from the safety, the commercial aspect of the sport was booming, and when I say booming, I MEAN booming. The trouble with the 'ring was, was that covering the circuit for TV was horrendously expensive, and becoming increasingly expensive. Such a large circuit was becoming too big to cover.

Thus, the 'ring no longer had a place on the F1 calander. The circuit was too large for the growing modern standards F1 had set itself, and the circuit itself was treacherous, even for the most gung-ho of drivers.

I know this guy won't reply, but they use a ''fast Back Acceleration''? What the hell is that? We don't know, because it doesn't exist.

And 300-400mph top speed? No chance.

Such was his speed, and such was the circuit, that he couldn't sleep for three days.

Holy crap I never knew that!

Just for the record, I love IndyCar aswell.
