I've been looking for a really unique car color, and really I like what TVR is using on their cars, but I am having difficulty finding the paint codes that they use. Are the codes secret? What brand of paint do they use? Can you get the paint mixed at a paint supplier of your choosing or only get it from a TVR dealership? I live in Canada so there are no TVR's over here so I was hoping that you can tint the paint youself and not have to buy it ready mixed from overseas (I don't think you can even do that). Any info you guys can offer would be greatly appreciated.

I know that TVR will provide you the paint from their paint factory in Blackpool, but thats the wrong side of the Atlantic ocean for you!
you can buy similar paints as well, but not TVR standard though

Hmmm...I don't know the TVR paint codes, but, isn't the TVR paint a 3 - 5 coat process?

Most paints are a 3+ stage system.

At least that or more, which is why I'm trying to find the codes so I can see if for instance PPG (or whoever supplies TVR with their paint) can pull up a mix chart for the colors and mix me some over here. I kind of thought that Blackpool would sell paint but shipping it here that would probably be a huge problem.
Having a custom color made to match a TVR shade would probably be impossible, even with a car here to look at, it's those midcoats that create the problem for matching.
I would also like to know who supplies TVR with paint? Is it PPG, DuPont, RM, House of Kolor? If I knew who it was I maybe could go to them directly and see if they could mix it and then they would not have to give out a mix chart or code.
I just find it hard to believe that the mix charts or whatever would be a big secret. What if you got a chip or scratch and couldn't find an authorized TVR bodyshop? Whould they just leave you high and dry?

Any high end shop should be able to match the color. They use very expensive machines to match colors.

Funny thing is Porsche paint bumpers and bodies at seperate factorys and the bumpers are always a few shades off.

The only problem is, is that they need the car there so they can use their machine on it to analyse the paint ,then make the custom batch.(I live in Canada I've never even seen a new TVR in person.)

well I think, but dont quote me, that all damages to TVR's have to go back to blackpool, as there are no touch-up paints available for the multi-colours.
as for the manufacturers, send TVR an e-mail, I am 98% sure its made "in-house" like their engines, but again, not totally sure

U can get a manafacturar 2 give it 2 u, TVR of course, but ur in Canada, not Europe! U can get perleascent paints, which are simply 2 colours of paint, sprayed on a car 1 b4 the other, and it gives a 2-tone effect. Cool, eh?:smt063
