View Full Version : What is the Best Car you Raced
nissan 240sx
Apr 02, 2005, 7:01 PM
lets see the best car i raced is ferrari. i was accidentally reving up my engine on a stop ligh, it's a stock 240sx with an aftermarker exhaust, then then i looked to my left and to my surprise a ferrari 550 was right next to me and the guy was looking at me and started reving his engine, and you know what that means. the light turned green 8 seconds after i couldnt see the car any longer. he was probably doing 110 or 120 while i was doing 70. that was kinf of an embaracing momment.
the second car is a mazda RX-8, it's ehaust sounded a lot like mine.

SC'ed C5 vette was a good match. Dead even all the way to 120.

I killed an earlier Vette probably a 95, I think they had the LT1 engine, that isn't much to brag about. Oh, I did take a 993 Cabriolet from a roll, 70-125 I probably had around 2 car lengths, give or take a little bit, that was pretty fun. They aren't much slower at all than the 996.

BTW, I drove the car, at Lime Rock. It was *fan-amazingly-tastic*.
On the street. Don't really "race" since I can't win, and it's dangerous as hell, buuuut. I've seen 'Vette's take off like bats out of hell.

My cars aren't built for racing so I don't race. Only some funny times on the freeway, but I don't think It can't be called racing.

Having never driven any sort of semi auto in my life before or since, I can't compare it, but since I wasn't really babying the throttle, btw...*insertjawonfloorhere* it sure as hell was the perfect thing for hitting apexes and keeping me focused in a car that costs a third as much as the house my fam. lives in.
So, it was damn good, I'd like a 6 speed though for road fun.

So, it doesnt suck... (Just for referance, the improved F1/CC Gearbox that is in the 575M, Enzo, and Maserati Gransports shifts 75% quicker than the one you drove.)
People really need to stop bitching about F1 Gearboxes, I'm sick of it.

Wasn't really a race as much as just tryin' to stay with it, but I was tryin' to keep up with a Ford GT 2 weeks ago. Key word here is trying. I was with him for a little while, but then he ounched the gas, and he was gone. Didn't see him on the highway again. And, it wasn't about 30 seconds later that I could see all the cars on the highway, about a mile or more up, and I couldn't see him at all. Awesome experience though.

How many times have you driven a manual up a canyon road CKG? If you have you would know that paddleshift/smg/manumatics are not good. They may be good for driving your overpriced exotic home from the office but they suck on a track, strip or any stretch of road with tight curves. They do shift faster than people can shift, but I could care less if I am .3547653738 seconds slower than somebody with a paddleshift.
But i guess most people don't care about making their personal driving technique better.

Uh, TTB I don't really wanna get involved, but the F1 SMG's can't suck that bad, I mean they are used in F1. And yes I know they are watered down a bit for the road cars, but I doubt it can be that much.

Damnit TTB, you're a genious. All of those racing teams must be fools, because according to you, SMG sucks and Manual is better. You must be the smartest person alive.
There's certain situations that benefit to each interms of fun.
General driving in good weather....Manual
Rainy, Snowy, Crappy weather....SMG
Racing....SMG
Heavy Traffic....SMG

I think I understand TTBliss. He agreed that SMG is faster, but IMO manual gives more fun to drive. I prefer manual too allthough I'm not a racing driver.

Apr 04, 2005, 7:55 PM
I understand...I think it really depends what use you have for your car. If it's a DD or more practical car, then SMG is all the way, but if it's just a weekend fun car, then a Manual would prob. be more fun.
TTB- what's your DD?

So if you are in snow, you can start an SMG in second gear and feather the clutch out so you don't slip? Don't feel bad most 15 year olds don't know about that either.
Heavy traffic is would be good, but I'm not a pansy ass and I can hold a clutch in for a few minutes with no problems.
It's better for racing.......in a RACE car. For drag racing you won't beat a good driver in a manual with an SMG gearbox. Unless you have a 150K car with launch control which still doesn't mean you have any skills, you simply have money. On a track MANY MANY cars use full manuals, others use sequential gearboces which still have to be shifted through the gats like a manual just with no clutch pedal.
My problem with them is that it takes no skill or talent. Anybody with enough money can go fast, that's nothing new. But I LIKE shifting gears up the canyon and on the track. I can feel what the car is doing without any sissy electronic aids stepping in to save my ass from being a shitty driver.
If I had no style and wanted to buy an italian sports car.....I would take an F50, beacuse you have to be a good driver to use it's potential.
But what do I know, I have actually been on a track and driven both gearboxes.

I raced a '02 or '03 Z06 vette in the 1/8 about 6 times. Every time one of us would miss a gear and the other would win. I think we were both tryin to hard hehe. I wanted to kill a Z06 and he really didnt want to get beat by a 4 banger. The guy actually told me he panic and jammed the gas when he saw my talon jump him a car and a half off the line.
I ran a moded ws6 a week later at the same track. I killed him out the hole but he got me at the line every time.

ive had an encounter with a vette on the highway. caught up with me quick, but i took the breakdown lane through a traffic pocket, he got stuck behind some white van in the passing lane.
I was driving home from work and in a rush because I had to drive to cape cod that night. So I'm driving down the highway at about 115-118mph, passed an onramp with a vette wearing a used dealer plates. I guess he wanted to have fun too, so he caught up with me in almost no time, and he took the passing lane to get in front of me, turns out there was a heavy traffic pocket on the highway. I got a little wriled up because I knew what he was doing, so I took the breakdown lane and passed everyone...Very stupid of me to do, could have died. Not going to do that again.

A well modded eclipse is almost impossible to beat from a dig. There are some local guys who have sub 1.6 60' times. I don't catch them until late 3rd gear they beat me so hard off the line.

but IMO manual gives more fun to drive
Manual is fun to drive because you can control which gear you are in. It's not fun because you get to throw a metal stick around a preset design. SMGs are very fast, and will allow you to sit back and relax in heavy traffic, or shift like crazy down a country road. It would be great if you had a family - which is what most companies have in mind when they design them. If you drive an M5 you can keep it in normal autmoatic mode to drive safely and easily. When you drop them all off at a movie you can switch it into sport mode with the SMG gearbox, and its like a whole new car. A much faster car.

mmmm......I never has a good race because i doesnt have a sport car (but im going to have one when i finish my two career in university and start to work).....but one day Im with the Ford F-350 pick up of my father, and i see a friend in the street in a red light......he was driving a Toyota MR-2 1986 with maybe 180HP.....we talk a couple of seconds and then he ask me for a race.....
Im not stupid, I doesnt have a sport car but the F-350 has a LOT LOT LOT of torque.... (V8 power stroke 7.4L engine diesel)......with maybe 350HP and 500LBft torque..i Dont know the exact HP...but models with less displacements has around 350HP and 500LBFT.......
WE start and obviously he kill me at the beggining.......but after a couple of seconds (over 60Mph...100Km/H here) all the torque begin to make its work and i keep head to head with the MR2 in 170KM/h, the max speed in this model =(.....but after a while i decide to stop that stupid thing because that's a monster car....and if some car appear in front of me, i definetily kill it.....(we are in a highway called "El corredor Norte"... and in that day it's empty)
My friend after the little race is in shock to see that pickup head to head with him....
Yes, it's a diesel car but the power is amazing, i doesnt love the american cars, but i certainly love this pick up =)
but in january of this year the car begins to have a lot of problems (two cylinder stop to work)......and use too much gas (maybe 70 dollars the full tank) so my father sell it and buy a nissan frontier..has more reliability but doesnt have the same power

I saw a truck like yours DESTROY an STI on the street. I couldn't believe all the swet and smoke that diesel let out. It was a white lifted F350 and it didn't even chirp the tires off the line........gobbs of torque never hurt anybody.

somebody know what's the exact power of the F350 v8 powerstroke 7.4L Diesel???
I put that in google and appear a lot of performance parts....intercoolers, computer chips, exahust...damm...you can use that car in drag race.....and with 4 wheels at the rear side of the car..you dont need to worried about the traction and spin LOL....4 high performance tires at the rear side can be amazing

I ran down and passed a 360 Challenge Stradale at a track event.(Pikes Peak Intl Raceway.) The 360 CS is a terrific car, but coming out a a tight hairpin and onto a long banked straight, 530 lb-feet of torque just reeled him in.
More recently, at a very twisty local track, a guy in a Ferrari 355 was talking about how his car would be SO much faster than me because his car was SO much better in the corners than mine because "Vipers can't take corners quickly." etc. etc. etc.
A couple of kids were there, and I was giving one a ride and the guy in the 355 was giving the other one a ride. I gave the Ferrari about a 30 second head start, and passed him after 3 laps.
The kid in my car was stoked, as he'd bet his friend riding in the 355 that we would catch the Ferrari. It was pretty fun. My passenger pointed out (very loudly) to his friend that we were faster on the straights and in the corners.

Yea i argree. The Allroad is one fast car. I've driven the 2.7TT before and that was one nice drive. It hit 80kmp in no time. That car is a torque monster but it drinks petrol.
I remember once i pissed off a Carrera 911. There were 2 lanes and he was behind me and i was exactly side by side with the car on the other lane dont the speed limit. I didnt want to slow down and speeding up is just stupid coz of all the speed cameras around so i blocked the 911 from passing us for a k or so. Then when the other car exited i heard a Flat 6 on full song and the 911 screamed past me and he dissapeared. That was one nice sound, but i prefer the sound of our local V8s.
I know i was being a d*ckhead, but i just got my licence and thats what arrogant teenagers do. =P

The 360CS is very good in the corners. This particular track consisted of 1/2 of a NASCAR oval, withe the ends connected by an infield road course. I barely kept on his tail through the infield, but once we pulled onto the big oval section, it was all over.

Damn you sped in an Rx8? Mind if I ask how you accomplished that feat???
j/k
My greatest accomplishment wasn't one car, it was a series of cars. I just got my Civic back onto the streets for my 17th birthday. B16A SiRII S4C tranny LSD equipped
TD04 straight from a volvo...ARP studs and some Hondata tunage by mail No sooner than 10 minutes on the road do I get a racing proposition.
A hunter green 3000GT Vr4...blah blah light turns green. I not only beat him off the line but I end up a good 9 car lengths ahead...Raced again..same result...I went on my merry way.. About 4 hours later, I had picked a friend up and some Asian kid in a riced out IS300 and his buddy in a black/yellow SW20 Mr2 are weaving in and out of traffic behind me. So I cut them off before they could pass and naturally it enrages the rice baby. I get infront of the bystandard that was blocking the other lane and give the Is300 a chance to line up...I race him and I quit after about the 1/8th because it's evident he didn't have a chance in hell
(I was at the bus stop by the time he got 1/2 through the intersection..If you know how bus stops are arranged in the US at a set amount of feet after every traffic light...) I started waggeling my car back and forth because that's what I do after every race...it's "shakin mah ***" at the driver. His buddy in the SW20 does the Ricer flyby on me at this point so I catch up to him at a traffic light I rev my engine and let him hear the Greddy Type-S and he does the same, but he flies off through the light and I just accelerate like I was driving normally needless to say he looked like a complete jack ***...That's always fun..But then from about a 35mph roll we went and I beat him aswell.
That night at say 11:30 I went to the "illegals" this was probably my last time going in my civic, i'm pretty sure it was. But I raced a 300zx TT 3 times, a ITR twice and a turbo integra LS once and beat every single one.
The 300zx I spanked the first time around..The second race I started in 2nd gear and tried to rev it high so no one would notice..needless to say it just bogged...but our acceleration off the line was damn near identical...but once I got to about 4000rpm's I started walking on him....The ITR was no contest..neither was the LS..Then I went home...had fun blah blah lived happily ever after..the end.

Thought you had a 350Z?
Plus, just because a car CAN go fast, doesnt mean you have to go fast...
