which focus do u mean ??

mallon
Jun 10, 2003, 12:29 PM
if you are refering to the Focus RS, then the RS, by some bit. - 2.5 seconds faster to 60mph!

White-Night
Jun 10, 2003, 3:17 PM
only 2.5 second quite a HUGE bit there mallon

mallon
Jun 10, 2003, 3:58 PM
yeah i know - 2.5 seconds is quite some time in the land of 0 - 60.
but he might not even be talking about the RS, maybe the lesser ST range :?:

I don't know. If the focus was an RS, there woudn't be any comparison. If it was a SVT versus a Si is very difficult. It's almost as difficult as the STi - EVO debate. I prefer the SVT. I just can't get the purpose of that bent nail of a shifter on the Si.

SVT. How can Honda give those wimpi tires to their Hot Hatch, also, considering the 1.6 liter 160hp Si from before, the new is not that good, the previows one was cooler

On the other hand, Honda has great quality.

i really don't know why everyone likes the focus hatch. I think they should make an svt focus sedan or even a wagon. Thats the best bodystyle for the focus is by far the wagon.

White-Night
Jun 15, 2003, 5:12 AM
depends on your style...
i think the Hatch is more sporty design ...but thats my opinion anyways .. :!:

Mopar68
Jun 15, 2003, 11:20 AM
yeah, but everything done to the focus thats interesting is with the hatch. I'm saying they should also make a SVT or RS or ST170 Focus in sedan form.

mallon
Jun 15, 2003, 11:32 AM
for us europeans - a sedan is a saloon yes?

White-Night
Jun 16, 2003, 4:05 PM
the way i see it the sedan is a 4 door car with a bagage !
a saloon car is the same but its quit bigger!

Mopar68
Jun 16, 2003, 7:47 PM
yes, a saloon is a sedan. Car and Driver actually rated the focus sedan higher than the focus hatchback in the "fun to drive" catagory. Thats why they should have an SVT focus wagon.

that's quite surprising - maybe since the 'sedan' looks a little odd is the reason the dont the dont make an SVT version. - since not many people would buy a slightly better performing sedan over the better looking hatchback.

i like the Honda better, if you are gona tune the car, just because you can get more parts and for cheaper. and both cars have been rebuild by people already. Alpine did a 02 SI, i don't think 02 and 03 have too much different, and i saw a Ford been done in one of the magizen, both of them are pertty impressive.
i think the Honda better, i am not a big fan of american cars, and i seen too many Ford go bad too. for the cheaper tuning and more parts go with the SI :!:

Definitely the Civic, no matter the versions.

well i think the new gen Si is a real dissapointment. it rides on 15's for crying out loud :? !

but what i would want instead of an Si is the type-r that's rumored to come to u.s. soil pretty soon. i cant wait. now that would kick any focus' ass :D

jimkk29

Buy a normal Civic, it's still nice, better than the Focus anyway.

Mopar68

Doesn't the RS have somehting like 16 more hp than the Si? THat may not seem like alot, but it's alot in cars that small. Plus, the RS has some impressive racing background, what with coliin Mcrae driving a focus and all.

i prefer the si but the rs would win

Wrong!!!!!
Both have same hp figures (Focus SVT and CIVIC Si), 160 bhp, as for torque the V-Tec sucks, as for handling, focus kicks ass, even the standard versions, honda has cut down funding on suspension for the civic in order to achieve a better accord

As for the RS, no contest, maybe a Focus RS against an Type R or whatever it's named, but that is not available in US

OK, let me explain:
Focus 1,4lt: 75PS - Civic 1,4lt: 90PS
Focus 1,6lt: 100PS - Civic 1,6lt: 110PS

No comparison so far - the Civic is much more powerful, more sporty and with better handling.

Now lets compare the "deadly" versions of these two cars:

Focus RS (35K euros)
2lt - 215PS (with turbo)

Civic Type-R (29K euros)
2lt - 200PS (without turbo)

At first glance, the Focus might seem more powerful, but the Civic can rev much higher. It also has better handling, better braking and stiffer suspensions, I believe... that's why I think that overall it has better performance.
Anyway, they are both great cars.

Yeh, jim's right. If you brought both out to a road race, the Focus would dominate the straightaways with the extra power, but the type-r would take the corners like it was on rails. The RS would suck on the corners because of the turbo lag and understeer while cornering (most turbo cars will usually do that).

the SVT focus was a pretty big dissapointment for most people since it is still a relatvily slow car and cant compete with si or pretty much any other sport coupe around its price tag. after all, who would pay over 20K for a focus that runs 0-60 in over 7.5 secs :

...Americans would and do... then laughing! I'm totally psyco!

First of all, i can't say which one is better because here in Greece we don't have any of the above cars (Honda Civic SI, Ford Focus SVT). The only versions that we have is the Honda Civic Type R (200hp) and the Ford Focus RS (215hp). And the 2nd one is by far faster, even it's straight way or corners. It's not my opinion, it's results of magazines tests.

Jim is right...

The Honda is a better overall performer...

I know for sure it's faster in the quarter mile than the Focus cause i saw it with my own eye's :D

When we went to the streetraces again.. there was a race between the Forcus and a Civic.. well the Focus couldn't even smell his burning tyres anymore..
BANM gone is the civic... it was really nice to see. but that japanese engine did work very well!

Ciao , Danny!

Well, I was probably kinda wrong, cause a magazine did a test here with the Type-R and the RS, and the RS was (a bit) faster around the track...
Perhaps on a very twisty track the Type-R will be faster though.

it could have been a race between 2 modified cars that were not a type R or RS. And the guy with the Focus may have put more money into his car.

yeah your right there but they seemed to be stock..

And i indeed don't know what kinda type of Civic it was.. but there a the streetraces were more than 1 civic and really every civic is just fast...

Faster than another stock car.. you know what i mean?
I guess really good Hondaq engine:(

or the Focus RS

Raith83
Nov 17, 2003, 11:46 PM
or this Focus RS8 concept? yeah, this is just a Concept, but that's how the GT started out as well. Anyone who even puts a car like this together just for show is a decent company
they crammed a 5.0-liter V-8 with 420-hp and 370 lb-ft of torque and converted it to RWD, tooo sweet

Dude Look at the car!!! There is no aerodynamic ablities at all for the car and not to mention it looks stupid as hell. Thats like fixing up a pinto!

jimkk29
Nov 20, 2003, 5:50 PM
No it doesn't look stupid...
And aerodynamic abilities? What do you mean, some huge spoiler?
Try not to be "all show, no go"...

actually if the car had a front spolier and a larger one in the back it would be nice

Not IMO, I don't like large spoilers... I prefer this car as it is.
