without posting any specs, my choice is the RSX without a single bit of trouble. As far as I know, the Celica makes a respectable 180hp and costs about 20-23 thousand dollars if I'm not mistaken. The RSX has a 6-speed manual, while I think the Celica only ahs a 5-speed. I'll check though :!:

Celica also has a 6speed.
Both are good cars, if I had a choice I think id take the RSX only cause it looks more refined. Both run about the same also.

i would go with the celica it looks more sleek, the RSX looks kinda high and fat from certain angles here are some pics jim:

Aesthetically, I would choose the RSX. I'm not sure about performance though...

180HP for the celica GTS

They both run about the same, comes down to driver.
The celica is lighter so this helps with the less horsepower vs the RSX.

okay, here's a "quick" rundown
2004 Acura RSX Type-S
$23,865
2.0-liter I-4
200 hp 142 ln-ft of torque(max power is acheived at lower RPM than the Celica)
2,767 pounds
6 speen manny, FWD
more standard features
more cargo volume
2004 Toyota Celica GTS w/Action Package
$27,090 when comparably equiped (base price is higher as well)
1.8-liter I-4
180 hp 130 lb-ft of torque
2,500 pounds
6 speed manny, FWD
impressively more passanger room
These cars are clsoer than I thought! My choice is still the RSX, though this in no way says that the Celica isn't freaking awesome

the celcia is lighter so that a really big advantage, i like the RSX too but i'm going on styling alone for the celica

i agree with you.. my choice is RSX too....
i've driven both the RSX and the Celica before....
the handling of the RSX is completely in a class of it's own...
they both have a great engine though.... but if you decide to bring your car on a race track then the RSX is the pick..

Here in Greece Celica comes with an 192hp engine, and it's called TS (Toyota Sport) not GTS

I pick the RSX because I think that Toyota screwed up the Celica  The thing that sucks about both is that they are both front wheel drive :(

I had to register cuz this is too funny. I drive a 2001 Celica GTS and my husband drives a 2002 Acura RSX Type-S, so I had to comment. I love my car, but I also love the Type-S. We both have air intakes in them, so they go a bit faster than stock. But to compare the 2, I find that the Celica handles better on the road, but the RSX is more potent than mine. I find that I get more looks with my Celica than with the RSX (and no, it's not cuz I'm a girl). Yes, I only have 180 + give or take 10 hp more and my husband has over 200 with his intake, but we talked about who would win if we raced and we both agreed that the driver plays a big part.
I love my car, but I love the RSX Type-S too. What I love about my car is when I hit 6000 rpm's, the intake kicks in and it a whole lot of fun. As for the RSX, the intake just gives it more hp all around, not just at 6000 rpm's. That's the difference between the two.
Just wanted to add my five cents worth!!

The kick that you get at 6.000RPM, is not from the air intake but from the VVTi system that Celica has. RSX has also the VTi system but is not that agressive, that's why is little difficult to understand when is activated. The engine of Celica has get many bad comments from the Press about this, cause all the power is between 6.000 - 8000RPM. Below that, the engine is very weak.

Nice post, but a few corrections:
1. The valve system of the Celica is called VVTL-i, and the Honda system is called i-VTEC.
2. The celica engine is not totally weak under 6000 rpm, but is weak compared to the 6000-8000 range. Below 6000 rpm, it's just a normal 1.8 lt engine, nothing special. Geo_x check the dyno from the last issue of EVO (where they test the Kinitron fuel).
I'll pass on them both, not my cup of tea.

There is a VVT-i system in celica's like all of the better toyota's... I think Geo was correct in what he said

Jan 05, 2004, 9:22 AM
No. VVT-i is the system in the 1.4 and 1.6 corolla engines, as well as the 1.0 and 1.3 yaris engines. The system in the 1.8 engine is called VVTL-i, and is more advanced than the more simple VVT-i.

The celica 1.8L engine has VVTi or VVTL-i.
Geo was talking about the VVTi. Im not sure why you corrected him with VVTLi, when he was perfectly right to say VVTi.

What are you talking about?
The Celica 1.8 engine has the VVTL-i system.
