both super high-performance compact-sedans....
which is better??
impreza = 280 bhp
evo = 276 bhp
its really hard to find a straight out winner between the two but i think on the long run, i would like to have the impreza because of: BREMBO BRAKES, MOMO STEERING WHEEL, RECARO SEATS AND MOMO GEAR SHIFT.... enough said i believe

I belive the sti has 300hp. This comparison is way to close to figure out. The subaru is faster, but the evo has better handling. Give him a break White night. this is probaly the hottest debate in the world. You must be living in a dream world to think this wouldn't be posted mnore than twice.

I vote for the EVO 8. I think it's better.

This argument will never be settled :D
These cars are designed to do the same thing, handle excellently and go fast whilst doing that.
They both do that to around the exact same level.
So it can only come down to personal taste, on things like looks.
That why i prefer the EVO VIII - relatively i think its a more hansome car.

I agree. These cars are so close. One big thing though is the udersteer of the STi. The Evo outhandled the Sti on road course due to its natural feel. The Evo felt better. He blamed the STi's slower steering ratio and torque sensing front LSD. Big Question is...how does one fix that???? Change steering gear and disable the torque sensing? If that is the problem, and understeer is fixed, then STi all the way. I like the engine and interior a little better. The Evo is running like 19 pounds of boost to squeeze out that power compared to the STi's 14. How is the Japanese EVo so much more powerful??? But I heard already that another EVO 8 will debut in the US for 35,000 dollars. I figure it may be the GSR or the Japanese version. (note: I read the Comparo in Car and Driver.)

EVO EVO EVO EVO
I would say the evo easily. they actually have equal bhp and the evo has better quarter mile times and it is lighter. Mitsubishi has dominated production car rally (group N) for ages and its no surprise. the evo 8 has momo interior and brembo brakes also better handling. here in australia there is a racing division called GT performance where some turbo japs (evo's, wrx's, RX7's etc) go up against some V8s with more power. Mitsubishi has won that series 6 years in a row. subaru maybe currently having more rally success but production/road car is a completely different story!

Tell me if I'm wrong, but hasn't the EVO series been around alo t longer than the STi series? And didn't the lancer have a better rally history?

heres how i look at it, which car looks like it would be better off road as that was what these cars are made to do.
Evo8 biggest thing right off the bat FMIC..yeah that would get beat to hell in gravel... second it sits pretty low and way to "street oriented" which does means better looks/styling and comfort but that really doesn mean much on a logging road
STI has 6 or 7 (cant remember exact) inches of ground clearance, a TMIC a beefy 6 spd geared low as hell. manual diff overide...no radio and other comforts....its just more of an offroad car.
Now i know someone is going to be like "most people arent going to take them offroad anyways" and crap like that but bottom line thats what these cars are made for so thats what i judged them on.

Depends on what we are talking. Straight drag, the impreza's got it but in a slalom or in handling the EVOs got it made.

The evo will beat a sti in a straight drag if both cars are stock. Evo is overall better in performance. So evo all the way. Evo also looks better.

But is that the top of the range Sti with 300 Bhp Evo now has an 8 with 330Bhp and more torque so i would still take an Evo over an Sti....
