wich one you guys like better the boxter or the Mercedes banz SL 55 AMG Performrnt package or the boxter S i prefer the mercedez

the porsche is one of my favorite cars ..
but copared with a Mercedes benz SL 55 with an AMG Performrnt package
i will probably choose the Benz ...

by the way its a really bad comparison ...
the Mercedes-Benz SL 55 AMG Performance Package have 500 Hp ...
the boxter aint even near it nor the 911...
the 911 turbo have 420 Hp ...! that might just might be compared !!!

They are both 5.5 engines, only the 600 weighs so much more. And the AMG styling on the SL55AMG is better than the standard Merc stuff.

This is a weird comparison. Of course I would take the SL. I like the Boxster S, but the SL 55 AMG is so much better car that is completely pointless to compare it to the Boxster S. I think the Boxster S can be possibly compared to the SL 500, but it would be pointless as well, because the SL is a bigger car and in Germany it costs almost a 50.000 € more. It's more appropriate to compare the Boxster to the SLK.

I'm going to go against all of you and take the boxster. More fun i think. Plus, it's got a manual. So what if the SL55 has a billion horsepower, the boxster is definetly better balanced. It's be more fun around the track. And i'd buy an E55 with the rest of the money i saved.

Odd comparison. I'd take the Mercedes SL in a heartbeat. It's not in the same category. (Although I would agree that the Boxster S is probably more fun and better balanced.)

I think a better comparo would be Boxster "S" vs a Mercedes SLK55.

SL55AMG...Just too damn fast to pass up for a Boxster.

Plus it's got "SL" prestige that the entry level Porsche can't match...Weird comparison imo.

If you al just stop and think about it for a second, this isn't that odd at all. Yes, the mercedes is better in just about every aspect, but it's also about $130,000. The boxster is about $50,000. Lets just put price back into the equation. The boxster is definetly more performance car for the money. It's just pure driving pleasure. The SL55 is a luxury convertible with some performance added in.

Craving a performance cars is like craving food. Sometimes you just feel like a simple taco. Well thats what the boxster is, the automotive form of a taco. The SL55, on the other hand, is like a big steak made to taste like a taco. See the difference?

I see your point. But following that philosophy, I'd take a 1984 VW Rabbit GTI for about $1500 bucks and go have fun on the weekend.


SLK55 vs Boxster "S" is clearly a closer comparison in my opinion.

no doubt about that. But i'm just saying for this comparison, the boxster is better for price and such. I think if i had a choice between SLK55 and boxster S, i'd take the SLK55 because it's just cooler.

I hate the Boxter with a passion.
So of course I'm with the SLK55.

The SLK55 is 'newer' but in my opinion not 'kooler'. The Porsche is a classic that has gone through an evolution of improvements bringing it to the point of near sports car perfection. Maybe is the SLK55 stays around for 7yrs it too will have reached a similar classic status.

I like both of these cars. 2 seat roadsters with a lot of power and a lot of balance hit the spot.

since when is 280hp alot of power? and im talking about the '05 S model, took them long enough to make more horses, 228hp for a 40K+ car? i dont care if its a porsche. the boxster is just a cheap mans sub 911. a 350z can out perform a boxster and save 12k for the top of the line track 350z, but then again you think your "kool" driving a porsche while everyone else is laughing while your ass just got smoked.
SL55 more power, more refined, SL is older than a boxster, worth more compared to the dime a dozen boxster, more heritage if u like to count years SL-Boxster has been around. retractable hardtop with enough luggage space to leave for 2+weeks.
take 2 please 1 SL55 for daily driver, 1 SL65 for weekend warrior.

Since you mentioned the 350Z.
Here are some lap times I found from MOTOR. they had some lap times for Winton (some track)
Boxter S MY03: 1:42.09 (191kw)
SL55 MY03 1:41.22
350Z Track 1:43.18

So...theoretically speaking, the Boxter will beat the 350Z on the track.

It's exactly what i was saying before. The boxster is so well balanced. I'm not suprised at all that it could beat the 350Z on the track. The 0-60 times and everything are close enough.
