What about suspension? I've heard that you can have an extremeley poor handling car without uprgrading the suspension package.

You do that later :D Once your done upgrading the engine then tune the suspension :!:
If you tune the suspension first, you're going to have to do it again to adjust to the changes :!:

According to many magazines first you should change wheels, tyres, brakes, suspensions, and other stuff that they have to do with safety and control of the car. Then u can change the air intake, exhaust, camshaft, pistons, turbo pressure if there is, etc, and at last reprogram the ECU.

i am going to have to agree with Geo on that one. Tires and wheels are pretty important, as well as suspension and control of the car. If you will not be driving it until you are completely finished then do whatever you want. on the other hand if you are going to drive it while you are modifying it, then do the suspension componets and the wheels/tires. ECU should be last, after you do exahust, intake, turbo...etc..., turbo should come later on but after a turbo you may also want to look at bigger injectors and more fuel delivery.

I'd do turbo last. Intake manifold, headers, exhaust, then turbo upgrades, at least. Then all the other fun stuff. Power pullies, ECU mod, ect.

i agree with every word !
an other thing there is no new VR6 ! there is the V6 !
the GTI is more sporty the suspentions are better and the behaviour .
the V6 is more soft and is more like a powerfull family car ! ( i tryed it and i still prefered a tuned GTI ~! )

Mmmm, sweet sweet turbo. You know, even a base Golf with the base engine is so much more responsive and well handling than any other car I've been in. Okay, so it's only my 92 Tempo, a 99 Dodge Stratus, 00 Chevy Monte Carlo, and a 92 Buick LeSabre V6. But still, the Golf was so much more crisp and the power was there even if it wasn't as much on papaer. I can't imagine how a GTi 1.8T goes and goes....*sigh*

i would do anything that takes the less time first...and work my way up...
and another thing: always give yourself double of what the manufacturer says is the install time...

If you do the turbo, you have to do the injectors, and chip anyway....they should be lumped together.....
