here in UK we went one step further with ferrari 360's
Personally i think its a waste of tax payers money to speed money on a ferrari when there are cars that are just as fast at a half the price...

There is probably like one of those per dept. I have seen the cop cars there.
They use tiny cars usually.

Thlam
Dec 29, 2003, 8:07 PM
yeah lol like these tiny things in htye use in the city, if you've ever played tokyo cop in the arcades u cna drive one, its a very nimble little car
http://www.iee.et.tu-dresden.de/~henker/images_japan/small/policar.jpg

most of them use toyota sedans that kinda look like the century
http://www.geocities.com/MotorCity/Flats/1433/tokyo2.jpg
but on the highway they use skylines, RXs and evo.
i found a website with more info on the cars they use if you are interested http://www.anzwers.org/free/policecars/w123.html

That Skyline or a Police 360 would SACRE THE LIVING DAYLIGHTS out of me no matter what I was driving  Good thing they really don't have Police code Vipers here, that would make me jittery as well. Anyway, only idiots run from the cops, and the unlucky ones will get hit with those few super interceptor specials. Man, when every department gets free choice of what car they want, I'll totally join Law enforcement

igaboj
Dec 30, 2003, 1:10 PM
the police interceptor's are kinda slow... according to some popular mechanics test

Dutchmarshall
Dec 30, 2003, 1:41 PM
are they afraid that they wont be fast enough, Ive saw a lot of police pursuits, but in most at least one police car crashes or gets damaged, So its way to expensive to have a Ferrari or Skyline in a force

Raith83
Dec 30, 2003, 3:42 PM
Way too expensive gor Ferarri yes, Skyline? Maybe. If you need that speed to stop some punk in an exotic, then it's worth the cost of saving lives. Anyway, I bet that police order Ferrari is just for parades

igaboj
Dec 30, 2003, 4:47 PM
speaking of parades, we used to have a police corvette for parades, but now w/ the budget crisis, all our police get are stupid PT cruisers

It cant be as bad as the cops here, driving around in their Crown Victoria's thinking they can stop anything going theri way. Damn Cops!!! I personally would not even think about running in the first place but if I did, and saw a Skyline or 360 chasing me, i would just give up and pull over, better yet i would drive myself to the station.

they are real japanese police cars but they are only used for promotional events, they would never use them for real police work.

most police in japan drive round in tiny 660cc cars, boring slow saloons or ride bikes - you would never see them driving around in anything fast like that.

its not so much that the speed limit is low, its got alot more to do with the fact that you physically cant drive any faster there cos its a congested overcrowded place.

wow the Japanese have to make everything small  they HAD to chose the smallest cars for the job  no offense to anyone Japanese I just find it funny the way that they whenever someone comes up with new technology around the world, they concentrate on making it smaller... hence why they use a Mitsubishi GTO... the Skyline is probably a BOAT to them as a police car

Thlam
Jan 04, 2004, 9:58 PM
its not about wanting to make it small but more a quesiton about practicality, in the city htey use these tiny police cars because it is easier to go aorund the city in htem and to weave in and out of traffic, on the highway they use regular sized cars

dark-hunter, your question "Doesen't the R34 have a GTR symbol on the bak of it", no.

every R34 skyline is not a GTR, just like every mustang is not a GT, every integra is not a type-r, etc. etc. there are lots of versions of the R34 skyline, the GTR is just one of them.

this is the most indepth site i found with info on the R34 in my 5 minutes of google.
http://www.meggala.com/r34infopage.html
contrary to what everyone thinks, that there's just one R34 skyline, there's EIGHT. albeit a few of them are just 2door versions, still eight different versions. and only 3 are AWD, which is another fallacy that everyone embellishes. the rest are RWD.

this is basically my support for why i think the skyline is an all-too-overrated car here in the united states. over here, the skyline obsessed over. but everyone thinks that it's only the GT-R. there are many forms of the skyline. (keep in mind i'm not pinpointing you, dark-hunter, i'm just glad you asked the question so i can speak my mind). in japan, most of the skylines on the road are the RWD non TT versions, and don't even have the slight variances in cosmetics that make the GT-R look the way it does. so basically, in japan a lot of skylines are just family sedans. they aren't all 1000-hp AWD beasts.

i think one of the only reasons everyone obsesses over the R series skyline in the US is that you can't get them here. because ppl don't obsess over the new V35 skyline (infiniti G35) at all. and i bet when the GT-R comes out it'll be even better than the R34 GT-R, but everyone will still like the R34 version better.

anyway, that's my 2 cents on the whole skyline ordeal. call me stupid, call me uninformed, that's what i think.

dark_hunter
Jan 19, 2004, 7:17 PM
Yeah, my friend told me of the 4-door Skyline, but he never and a pic
(keep in mind i'm not pinpointing you, dark-hunter, i'm just glad you asked the question so i can speak my mind). You can't learn if you don't ask questions :D

i agree with you on the whole deal about how we Americans whine about what we don't have, especially about the skyline. However, what you said about non existant excitement over the V35/G35 is untrue. The combination of the Nissan 350z and the Infiniti G35 Coupe and Sedan won numerous prestigious Car of the Year 2003 Awards, including Automobile and Motor Trend Magazines. Now historically, all luxury divisions of large car companies have had lower sales then their regular counterparts mostly because not everyone of us has the money for a luxury car. And also, the 350z is no cheap car either (coming in at around 30k BASE- and the options are expen$ive).

Now, the V35/G35/350Z isn't the greatest example as these arent neccesarily cars that notch reputations on par with the silvias, RX-7's and Skylines of the world. Now the reason we HAVE these cars is because of their marketability. Sure, more than 95% of the people in this forum would like to have the skyline here but we're the section of the population that companies work twoard but dont bring Skylines to: the youth. we have less money, we give fast cars bad repuations and bad accident statistics. Furthermore, out of us, how many of us would/could buy the fuggen thing? Thats what Nissan exec's go over every year and the Z/G35 passed the test. Im not saying that Z/G35 can match the hype for skylines but, if we didnt have the Z/G35 , we'd be up in arms crying and pissin and moanin too.

igaboj
Jan 31, 2004, 1:45 PM
sure, thats kinda true, not very many ppl really do buy (or can) a skyline, so nissan tries to bring it down to "our" or a lower level, so people actually buy it (giving them profit) rather than have some kids gawk at one when they see it in a showroom and let the skyline gather dust, without a sell..

idk where it was, probably around the end of bakersfield... when the A/C in our rented cavalier died on us in the middle of I5, during summer in bakersfield.., it hurt to touch the window from the inside..

i heard they'd patrol long rural stretches of I5 and the parts of 101 where there are no ppl, and ppl are most likely to speed (the camaro's are made to be very difficult to spot, or designate as a police car) :? only saw 1 in about 300 miles :? but they're actually quite easy to spot with their huge 50 ft antenna's

btw... the only one i saw was a base V6, any Z28's, or maybe an SS? 8)

well i scipped like 3 pages but the reason japs have fast cop cars is cuz the public can firggan drift on public roads!!!! i have seen videos of people drifting in public with cop cars there. people can drift over there as long as they dont get cought goingh real fast but when they do get cought cops will need cars faster then crown victorias. it has been told that they go to mountions at night to drift initial D style witch btw is down hill drifting. and there is a place called the docks where people drift everynight and it is jammed packed there with cars when it rains. go to http://velocity.isfaster.com/drift/drift.htm it is a bleive some american who went to japan and did this. he say that it is hecktick how poeple can just drift on turns and no 1 will care. i imagine that when they actully travel in packs and stuff cops willl brake it up.

are the four-doors still being produced or did they stop with the coupe?

Here is the new four door Skyline:

No it's not a flaw, the G35 really is the temporarily the new Skyline. (G35 coupe and sedan = Skyline GTR and sedan)

nono.

you're right that the infiniti G35 is the new skyline. but it's not temporary. this is the new version of the skyline, period.

but not the GTR. the GTR i heard is losing the "skyline" name altogether and is going just "GTR" i believe, and competing with 911 turbos and such.

someone posted more information than in that link about the new GTR coming out later this decade, but i couldn't find it. i'm positive it was in this forum though...
