For a daily use car, and the fact that you live in a place where there are all the 4 seasons what would you choose??? (performance cars) Would you choose a honda s2000 for example but deal with winter conditions?! Or a 4wd car like an Sti or an evo? Or a fwd car like an alfa 156 gta?! I, for one, am very used to driving a fwd to the limit!
SO in the end when comes to shopping what kind of traction displacement would you pick???

I always choose 4WD for all around usage. RWD is better for hard racing in dry weather.

4wd is just awesome for handling and overall, but it is heavier so you need more power to compensate for the wieght increase....aka the Audi RS-6

4 wheel drive for off roading and serious traction but id take rear wheel drive for everything and its more fun to drift with :D :D

I'll say RWD cause I prefer being pushed than pulled. U got more control over a RWD car than FWD car. 4WD aint bad but I prefer RWD.

RWD is better in all the aspects on the road , handling , power , accelration .
if its on an offroad i will take the 4wd couse its better handling there .
mainly RWD over here!

Rear Wheel Drive for performance and speed and possibly handling if mid-engined, Four Wheel Drive for handling during winter and such, Front Wheel Drive is the best for economy... this is my opinion... anyone disagree but I prefer Rear Wheel Drive because it is funner IMO 8)

I mainly have experience with FWD, and a bit 4WD. I don't have any experience with RWD, but that is soon going to change.

i actually quite like a FWD sports car coz i bring my car down on race track every now and then and most people agree that on a small track when lots of bends the FWD cars like the integra typeR can bring out the best times...
and on a bigger track where you need lots of power then the RWD configuration is better....
but still... 4WD suits both big and small tracks and most road conditions..
a purely personal choice would be a FWD car....

RWD because of better acceleration, track times, handling, and fuel economy and weight and drifting and more... AWD only on dirt or snow. Though a AWD like a WRX would be nice.

I totally agree, performance wise, in the dry RWD is the best....PERIOD!

I personally like RWD more as well. I absolutely hate bum-draggers but don't mind AWD, but then again, you can't have as much fun with either of these layouts.
Anyway, Hype-Vtec, since you like RWD so much, why do you opt for a Honda, I mean, they are FWD except the S2k. Seems a bit weird.

RWD...get a frickin' Corvette Z06 with traction control and some snow tires...one of my college professors for science last semester had one, he was there when a kid in class with an evo didn't show due to the weather  ...hahaha...

I'll take 4wd. I just love off road ! :) I have two Honda's Civic with FWD and CRV with 4wd. I say 4wd da best ! If I were driving CRV at the time when I crashed with my Civic nothing would happen at all.And who thinks that SUV's suck and are too slow I can say after some upgrades my CRV is running from 0 to 100 km/h in 7.3 seconds.

The Evo and STi are both AWD. Not 4WD. Four wheel drive is when the front wheels are locked and rear wheels are locked together, spinning at the same rate. This is used in SUVs for getting out of the mud or getting a LITTLE more traction in the snow/rain. AWD cars have completely independant wheels. So if the front driver side wheel loses traction in slack, then the passenger side spins at whatever rate neccessary to keep it stable and secure. AWD is far superior to 4WD. I would have to go with the Skylines advanced AWD system. Its RWD biased when under heavy acceleration and when it enters a corner and more FWD is necessary, it shifts the power forward, making it about 40/60, instead of 20/80 or whatever interval necessary.

i think that FWD is out of the competition. becuse here we have some guy who want to play (drift drift drift drift) and the other side who want go in turns with as much as they and the car can..... i like the second one..... hmmmm i like the first tooo... :?
ok heres my tought.
w/ fwd you get understeer
w/ rwd you get understeer and oversteer so they kinda balance it out more.
w/ awd i have no idea but in theory it would be good.

AWD is nice for all around performance, you can offroad in awd[assuming you have an offroad friendly car, e.g. cayenne] and you get great acceleration off the line w/ awd[/code]

In perfect conditions, without rain, snow, etc I'd want a RWD car. AWD is the best for all purpose driving.

4WD is used in SUVs. AWD is used in sedans. There is a very big difference between the two, which I have posted here:
The Evo and STi are both AWD. Not 4WD. Four wheel drive is when the front wheels are locked and rear wheels are locked together, spinning at the same rate. This is used in SUVs for getting out of the mud or getting a LITTLE more traction in the snow/rain. AWD cars have completely independant wheels. So if the front driver side wheel loses traction in slack, then the passenger side spins at whatever rate neccessary to keep it stable and secure. AWD is far superior to 4WD.

That's not always the case, Attaus... it depends on the differential set-up of the car.
