What is your favourite form of motorsport? Is it touring cars, motorcross, rally, drag racing, formula 1? Just curious as to what people prefer.

WRC all the way by far the best. The inside view from the car shows the turns and speed amazingly and the stages are all different and most of the time very tough and narrow. BTCC is quite good sometimes too and F1 is only good because the cars are so amazing.

In order:
1)NASCAR
2)F1
3)American LeMans Series/LeMans/any other GT racing
3)IRL
4)Champ Car
I know all of our Euro friends will wonder how I can put NASCAR first when you think it's a bunch of rednecks driving the wrong way around a circle while drinking Busch beer, but in truth NASCAR is the series with the most overtaking, most excitement, and biggest percentage of the grid with a legit chance of winning. Despite what Juan Montoya says, the cars don't drive like pickup trucks either. There's amazing technology in these cars. They just use a little different formula than in open-wheel cars. 6L engines making 10,000 rpm and 800+ hp does not sound primitive to me. True, F1 cars can spin 18-19K, but they do so with only three liters. The drivers are great too, (as they show when they show up at LeMans, get into unfamiliar cars and drive with the best open wheel, (including F1), drivers in the world.

Yes, it's been done before. So what?
I prefer road racing, but I like any form of racing with close competition, other than short track ovals.
The SCCA Runoffs were held at Road Atlanta from 1970 to 1994. 450-odd invited "amateur" entries competed in 18 lap races in 20-odd classes for a one-shot/winner take all championship. Budgets ranged from pocket change to "factory" support, i.e., BRE and Bob Sharp Datsuns/Nissans. Driving skills ranged from crude to real pros. Drivers would do anything to lead the first or last lap! I remember a D Production Datsun 2000 roadster driver going straight to the paddock not knowing he had won. The dust cloud at turn 11 obscured the 2 former frontrunners who had crashed each other out on the last lap.
Road Atanta used to get 2 IMSA races; mid-April and Labor Day. IMSA GT racing at one time consisted of hordes (panzer divisions?) of Porsche 935's. We would complain about lack of variety, but the races were always hotly contested. Peter Gregg, Hurley Haywood, John Paul Sr, John Paul Jr, Dick Barbour, Don Whittington, Bill Whittington (track owners), Ted Field (Interscope Pictures owner) or Danny Ongais might win at any event. "Double ought" Danny Ongais spun out of the lead at turn 7 once, then broke the IMSA GT race lap track record 3 times in the next 5 laps! It was frightening to watch. John Paul Jr was a win or DNF driver. We thought he was high. (Little did we know.)
When the GTP Lola, Rondeau, and March(Porsche or Chevy power) chassis came on the scene, so did new drivers. SA native Sarel Van der Merwe won the Daytona 24 in a March/Chevy. David Hobbs won several races in a Lola T600/Chevy. JLP (Sr & Jr) Racing won races with both a T600 and a homebrew 935. The latter car was constructed from an old 911T for 2/3 the cost of a turnkey 935. The rules said "fender shape is free." Our camp nicknamed it the 935 PPS (Paul Paint Scraper).
IMSA RS (Radial Series/Racing Stock on shaved street tires) racing might feature 5 different makes of cars that would fit into one photo halfway through the race (BMW '02, Maxda RX-2, Toyota Corolla 2TC, Ford Pinto or Capri, Datsun 610/710, etc.) A bit later, 5 Renault(R5) LeCars and 1 Mazda GLC raced nose-to-tail up to the old #11 Bridge Turn(rated one of the world's 10 most difficult by C/D [thank you Doc Panoz for f****** it up!]) for 5 laps on a damp/drying track (surrounded by soggy GA grass & clay) until the leader waited a wee bit late to brake. All 6 went OCE; only 2 rejoined the race.
This year in the Rolex Grand Am series, attendees/viewers had no reasonable certainty as to who the winner would be with 20 minutes to go in the last 6 races.
Over the 8 years of its existence, ALMS has never produced, even remotely, this level of competition with its max of 7 LMP1 entries.
I went to Barber MS Park (20 miles more distant than RdATL) this year for the Rolex race. I WILL go back. Barring hurricane induced gas price spikes (I saw 2.319/gal yesterday), or an invitation to share accommodations with the Pirelli girls; I will travel the 440 miles to VIR for the Rolex race next year in lieu of the Petit LeMans.
I mean no slam at the younger auto enthusiasts enthralled by fast cars. I would love to go to Bonneville and see cars go 300 or 400 mph. Rally is some awesome stuff. I have carved a many a paved/gravel road and scared myself in my lifetime. This is not head-to-head; It is not RACING!
I would rather see wheelbarrows or karts make sparks wheel-to-wheel than watch another Audi(Doody) win by 12 laps.
I posted this before, but 15 years ago F1 drivers were surveyed as to what motorsport they watched when they had time available. 75% said NASCAR; because of the level of competition.
I find AMS/AIR (30 minutes away), the venue of tomorrow's NASCAR race, boring. I will never go back. I don't get into lots of the NASCAR short track events.
Anyone who has never seen video of Dale Earnhard's run from 18th place with 3 laps to go for the win (his last) at Talladega in the fall of 2000, and thinks NASCAR is boring is uninformed.
Anyone who has ever watched a NASCAR road race (heaviest cars required to turn right in the history of auto racing) at Sears Point or Watkins Glen and thinks NASCAR is boring is a dumbass. Sue me.

Rallying (WRC) all the way, huge amount of action, plenty of crashes, amazing driving skills and it's something I can relate to more than F1.
I can drive about 5 miles from my home and be on some great, bumpy B-road (crosscountry backroad) having a great time threading the car through a tree lined, muddy, wet singletrack while jumping over crests in the road. And you don't have to have a multi million car to do it!!
WRC is, in my opinion, way more exciting than F1.

Le Mans! Because it will be funny to find out about the superstitious 7-results really is true. - Which can be figured out in 2006.
I mean, Tom Kristensen was born the 7/7 1967 17:07. He won his first Le Mans in 1997 in car number 7. He has a winning status at 77.777%, at Le Mans. And last but not least 7 victories at Le Mans.
Le Mans 2006 will be exciting as hell, because of that 7-theory! If he win again it will just be strange coincidence. But if not... Yeah you know what i mean.

Personally I like JTCC, DTM and occasionally WRC.
Fun most of the times are those amateur drift races.
At the moment don't even have cable or any other means of watching anything but DVD's as my remote stopped working, TV on/off switch went lost and I only have one channel left. Fortunately that's the SCART.

There's something about a car that can do 0-340 in 4.5 seconds thats just exciting! And drag racing has classes from top fuel all the way down to sportsman, they even race stock from the factory cars like Hyundai Sonatas and Nissan Sentras... there's a class for everyone.

#1 drag racing, pro or door slammers
#2 nascar
#3 autocross
#4 sand drags. The only reason for #4 is that my uncle raced for years. He held the record in Nevada for four years with a run of 123mph through the traps. This is really amazing when you realize that this was 100 yards, not the 1/4 mile.

motogp all the way
one lap of motogp has more overtakings than a whole season of formula 1.
even though jap factories spend more than a 100 million dollars each the ability of the rider still takes precedence. so you get technolgy charged overtaking rich racing without any artificial restrictions of ballast or rules that don't give r&d freedom.
