Well! This is certainly a suprise to me :o and a pleasant one at that. The Saturn Ion Redlines cousin, the Cobalt Supercharged SS, takes a much less radical, more taught and trim styling take on the performance sports compact. those who didn't like hte Ions styling in the least will see styling cues, but a much more sleeker overall look. Whats that I hear? the sound of another 200hp 200lb-ft of torque Supercharged Ecotech. I don't know why I never suspected that powertrain being used in another GM product. Clolor me embarresed  Depending on pricing, I'd actually consider owning one of these puppies. I don't know what trim level this picture is, but it's as close as we can see into the production model so far. Can't wait til schoools out for the Summer and the Cobalt goes out for the Market :!:

It's going to be manufactured right here in Ohio too! Wonder if I could get a tour of the plant.....and sneak one out in my pocket

Yeah i read about that last night, nice car for the money. They say about 20 grand for a loaded SS. The pic you have is a SS. That would have made a nice second car if I didn't just buy one lol.

It's not too bad, but I don't like it much. :?

it is pretty cool, at least now the Americans are trying to attack the Japanese compact market, but I still think the Japanese compacts will always be better, and more reliable.

i sort of have a feeling that this might not catch on too much; speaking of redline; i haven't even seen one on the road yet... :?
sure, it's progress, but does anyone know anything about the scion tC?
isn't it also supercharged, and gets the same amnt of power?
if it does; the tC might be more popular, because it's more "hip" :)
but i really do have to applaud their progress :D and i REALLY have to give a toast to GM, for bringing some of their manufacturing back to the US! :D :D :D

Wow, I haven't heard of this Scion tC yet. I'll have to look this up. All I knew about were the xA and xB  The Cobalt is a good deal better than the Cavalier, and the Cavalier was immesnly popular, so it's no doubt going to seel like GM wants it to.

sorry, my bad, but the supercharger is a TRD option, and won't be released for some time  (w/out supercharger= 160 HP, 163 ft/lbs. torque)
anyway, just like the cobalt, this new scion will be priced at 19k fully loaded (no options, everything standard)

wow, I read about the tC and it takes the Cobalt by the thraot and beats it aginst the wall like a rag doll  Seriously, I had no idea about this car! Simply amazing. It's what I'd want style wise from like a Skyline or an Altezza but its a tight lil' compact, with a wicked low price for all of the features and quality you're getting. Sorry Cobalt and Redline, you both just got a square kick in the face.

That Scion is okay, I think the Cobolt is nicer though. Hey compared to the other to Scions though that thing is beautiful lol.

sort of looks like the tiburon coupe...
but IMO it looks kind of nice, and a little more classy than it's counterparts (which it really doesn't seem to resemble)
I'll be the first one to say that scions are UGLY :P but this one is much different to me :) if i wasn't told this was i scion, i'd think it was some other companies car, like a mitsubishi

The Cobalt is nice, the Scion looks bette but i think it's corolla based and if it's tuned like the Corolla i will say boooring, actually i guess the Cobalt will be a lot more fun to drive, it will atack the SRT-4 market with a less extreme option and a fresher look, i guess the interior is better too.
I dont think either of these will equal the driving dynamics of the SVT tho, i know they are more potent and newer designs, even fresher, but the current focus does nice, even a ZX3, i would get a C1 Mazda 3 fully loaded for less with better handling and better looks (at least than the Cobalt, Raith is like about the tC looking like a mini Skyline or a mini Subbie as i see it)

Well 2003 was the last year of the SVT Focus.

No way, Camry is waaaaay bigger
And SVT Focus is on a hiatus, but an Sporty Sedan badged ST will arrive soon, and a 200hp turbocharged l4 wll become optional in all the focus models, and the svt badge will be offered in 1 and a half years again

Yeah, the tC used the Camry engine, and that's it! I really must give it up for the SVT Focus though, it is still one of the best compacts out there. Solid baby, solid.

Right there, and i cant wait for the C1 Platform, too bad it wont get into US until 2008, but we get cars from UK so good for me, also for US market, engine lineup will grow with a 200+hp engine available for all non svt models, ala jetta, its not a Golf GTi, but you can get an 1.8t there

I'm not a fan of sport compact so.... well it's good to see GM trying to compete in the market anyways ;)
