I would say 80% car 20% driverbut obviously both are needed.
Taking shumacher at the weekend in austria, he messed up and with the new ferrari and he own skill he still managed pole.
anyone any etimates for the constructors/drivers championship?
I would say Ferrari first McLaren very close behing and shumacher and Raikkonen again close behind.

I think a driver needs a car wich he can handle very good.
If u have a very fast car, and u cant drive then u wont come far.
But for the opposite its the same

In the present era of F1 it is definitely sure that both the driver and the car must be superb. Though if the driver is not the best of the best but has the best car he is sure to win. So I would say that 70% CAR and 30% DRIVER.

the car is the most important. most of the drivers can drive as well a good car.

On pure performance, it's mostly the car. However, the drivers comes in where consistency is needed to win championships.
At the F1 level, all drivers are professionals. I say; give anyone a ferrari and he'll be at a top position... but how many times? that's where you need a fast and "wise" driver.

:!: In the world of Formula One, as with any other form of motorsport, the key to winning races is the successful union of driver skill and determination as well as a well constructed car. Remember that it isn't always the fastest car that wins, it is the most reliable. Ferrari and McLaren win because they have great driver talent and because they build reliable cars. Schumi wins because he is the best driver out there. Remember also that there still exists a wide range of ability in Formula One drivers, so it is not true that anyone who is given a Ferrari will win races. True the reliability and development of the car will help, but you still need a competent driver at the wheel. One really cannot say that it is driver or car, one over the other, because the two are inseperable.

Eyah thas already been said BUT we're taking about the effect. It cant be 50:50, because Pizzonia in a Ferrari would beat Shumacher in a Jaguar. ( assuming these drivers are the best and the worst of F1)

the driver cant have more effect than the car -
variation between team mates is around 1 - 3 seconds on any given lap.
Between teams its around 5 - 20 seconds on given laps.
- This shows that person to person there is little change. Car to car there is more.
The car definetly has more of an effect I think.

That's partly because the drivers in a team have similar skill but between two different teams there's a great difference in the skill of the drivers.
Anyway, the car is very important too.

that has some effect - but Jaguar driver Webber has more talent/skill than Coultard. Coultard finishs ahead of him all the time so I think that shows my point.

How do you know that Webber has more skill than Coulthard?

Its accpted that webber is a very very talented driver - considering he is miles ahead of his team mate.
Whilst DC with along with Villeneuve are the most experinced and he is not performing as he should (i.e. making an amateur-ish mistake yesturday)

I think that both car and driver are useful for a race.If tha car is slow driver can't do anything except keeping the car in the race.If a car is quick and the driver can't drive it the results are the same(Ferrari '99 when Michael broke his leg and Salo took his place).
