i am loving that! thanks for that! :)

(i dunno if its true but does the impreza rally car not use a legacy engine because the boxer cant be tuned enough?) thats what my mate told me and im not 100% sure if its ture

The legacy has a boxer engine too
All the subaru lineup use boxer engine :)
ahh and for the link, just click the right click and choose "SAVE AS"....

But the sound of the engine is quite different

Korfak is right, the whole range use boxer engines. the legacy 2.0 is more equalised from the manifolds apparently, whereas the impreza is slightly unbalanced, giving the unique sound, although this is only prominent because of the high bhp output (hence why a standard STi still sounds better than a sports exhaust on a standard WRX).
Besides the WRC can only use 2.0, rendering the current 2.5 STi useless for rally car conversions and homologation purposes is not applicable. that is why the N12 impreza from Prodrive is based on the Impreza STi Spec C from Japan, as is the current WRC car, as Japan still has the 2.0 lump in its STi's (so i am told). Also there will be a rise in grey imports for rally car conversions as neither the UK WRX or the STi can now be used in rally events... so now is a good time to be an import company in the uk :p

the new subaru has more power than all the teams but may suffer a little compotition from ford.

the new subaru has new technoligy in side and thats kept a scret by the SWRT but thats the main reason why the subaru sounds different but also the subaru has also managed to gather more power out of its 300bhp engine and this has affected the car to go a massive speed.

iv been waiting for this 2006 model for 2years for it to be reliesed, iv known about its presence for quite some time

its no secret most of the WRC cars run more than 300bhp. The reason behind the Subaru's sound is the boxer engine, simple as that, its a sound that is near impossible (although not totally impossible) to replicate in a straight or V engine. Prodrive also improved on their ALS (Anti Lag System) which will really boost the performance from the Turbo.
Also, expect to see their ALS de-tuned for road use in a mod pack being considered for Impreza owners (I.E possibly part of the PPP kit) in the UK. A version of this can already be seen in the Prodrive P2. I for one am following up on the ALS system and seeing if we can obtain one for our 2006 STi for a 'test' to see if we can retail it to a few of our track based customers! but the cost of the unit is too high at the moment and they are refusing to release it until research is finished (i guess to maximise reliable performance for the road)... but we have ways around this :)

SWRT try to keep their tecnoligy a secret for as long as they can, until the car will be replaced by a different model.

i know about the subarus performance but SWRT have added items that even i dont know because of this classification, but i do know that their is something in the coolant system but i cant explain what it does or how it works ....

i guess that the tecnoligy is basicly new materilas, new parts (e.g. newly designed IHI Turbo - with WRC regulation 34mm restrictor) and electronics (since we are entering the digital age) that have been placed into the subaru to give it more power

That's a neat looking car. Pretty quick, too. But then again, WRC cars are usually very quick. The drivers are just mad men.

BTW, why are the navigator's seat so low? So they can't see?

the Co-drivers dont relly see the road very often because their looking mostly at their pace notes, they only tend to look up to know where they are...

theirs other reasons as well

So that he doesn't see the oad and freak out. You know, I can be very scary sitting inside a WRC car....

i think its also the fact that the Co-driver could get distracted by whats going on out side the car.
the Co-driver is supposed to tell the driver where he is supposed to be going, to the nearest second or the car would end up in a tree or the driver could get lost.

^ I thought that way too. It's a matter of life and death.

Impreza WRC

^ ye rally is a dangerous sport

hundreds of spectators have died and last year.
michel park (i think) died in the rally GB last year, and its the problem with being Co-driver .... because your looking at pace notes you cant see whats going to happen. its the fact that shock from the co-drivers un-awarenes killed him. basicly he didnt notice he was going to crash and he couldnt brace/prepare for impact.

Heard of it. He was on the Peugeot team with Markus Gronolham (sp?). Their car crased into a tree. Park died and Gronolham got away with small scratches.

Video is great. And Marko Martin won't be coming back to WRC, he will be teaching young rally drivers in his homeland. And the co-driver seat is so low beacause he don't have to see road very well and you can lower center of gravity by putting the seat so low.

Impreza WRC
Jan 22, 2006, 7:46 AM
its a shame that hes not comming back... i think it probaly the guilt that someone died in his control.

theirs many reasons why the co-driver is lower down, but the closer to the road the better.

yeah was wondering that myself!

Impreza WRC
Jan 23, 2006, 12:18 PM
they do that... im not sure if its because of wrc rules cos peugeot did the same and they didnt loose any points but ford changed cars straight away and the lost a couple of points.

but it could be to make the drivers get used to the new cars.

SubaruKid37
Jan 23, 2006, 3:35 PM
its because it is not cost effective for the teams to run more than 2 of the new cars, because only 2 can score team points, so any extra drivers will use the previous models, Ford did it lots when they made the edgy Focus WRC

Korfak
Jan 24, 2006, 12:26 AM
mmm in that case
what do you think is the best driver
stephane sarrazine or chris atkinson???

Who needs the 2006 models more than the other??

i wouldnt say one is better that the other because one is good on one terrain the other is good on another terrain... but my fave. has to be solberg
