I understand the derision of sports car racing fans who deride "roundy round" racing. I've been to less than 10 Nascar races/70+ road races. I used to hear crap about "no skill" in road racing when cars lappped Martinsville @ 96 MPH.
15 years ago, 75% of F1 drivers said they watched NASCAR races when they had a weekend off. Why? Close competition.
Short races like IROC or the Bud Shootout (delayed from Sat night by rain; green flag @ 4:42 PM EST Sunday, 2/12 on TNT) offer road race fans a bite-size view of Nascar racing. 20 laps/10 minute pit/50 laps raced for the win/money that makes no difference in season points makes for balls-to-the-wall racing. 25 degrees cooler temps than yesterday makes for more HP and less traction. It will probably get ugly. Check it out if you can.
